I know she's only a tagger at the kink meme, not a mod, but I do think her ranting about kinkmeme things at ffr is a little tacky, considering she is part of the meme. And I guess we can be sure she doean't come here, seeing as she'd never heard of EMW.

While we don’t know a lot about the reunion between Sam and Dean, we do know there will be a bit of initial tension. Dean will feel slightly resentful that Sam didn’t try to find him, according to Edlund. Dean will essentially ask “‘why didn’t you look [for me]? We had a tacit agreement that we always look [even if we said we wouldn’t]’.” Padalecki also said that Dean will question how Sam just cut himself out of a life of hunting. Wasn’t he paying attention to the strange things happening around the country? For his part, Sam will explain that he knew there were other hunters out there to take care of things and he chose to do this with his life instead.

Re: Dean and the new monster

“[There will be a] character introduced in the first episode that helps explain how Dean got out [of Purgatory],” Ackles explained. “That character doesn’t just go away. [He/she] is going to stick around, and, of course, cause problems. Because Dean is indebted to this character for his exit [from Purgatory] it makes the situation volatile. That’s how the onion gets peeled back [about Dean’s time in Purgatory. It happens] through Dean’s crazy relationship with the new character."

Sam and his new life:

“Sam [has been] living in normalcy [for the year],” Padalecki said. “Sam got out of the life. [He was' without Bobby, Cas and Dean, and had no Kevin in sight. Sam [basically said to himself] ‘everyone I know is dead’. He didn’t know what happened [to Dean].” As the season progresses, we’ll see flashbacks about what happened to Sam while he was trying to live a normal life. Padalecki said that during that year,Sam enjoyed himself. "I think he wanted to be normal for so long. He was moving forward outside of hunting.” Although, while he was happy, he was still clearly grieving for everyone that he had lost. At the same time, don’t expect to see Sam like he was in the season 4 flashback episode “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

When asked if Sam’s time with his new girlfriend Amelia will be like Dean’s time off from hunting with Lisa, Padalecki said there are some parallels, but it’s clearly a different situation. During the time Sam was in Hell, Dean technically still had other people around him, including Bobby, but Sam doesn’t have anyone now. “Sam’s not leaving anybody,” Padalecki explained

is that Dean is going to resent Sam again. He can't even be happy that DSam had someone while he was gone. That's not the Dean I want, I want some friggen growth of character. I want him to learn and not become more and more self-absorbed. FU Dean. I loved you but I'm done with you and by extension, show.

So a large portion of fandom is foaming at the mouth in a rage over the CC spoilers, which is fine, but is there anyone here who, like me, is now excited as hell for season 8?

I figured we could start a thread for all the video interviews that are coming out. Sometimes watching them talk about these things puts the spoilers in a different context and makes them less wanky.

First one up is Jensen:

-doesn't really seem to know too much about the season arc yet
-calls Sam his "companion" :D
-says Bobby and Cas are family, but Sam is blood, so that's why Dean can forgive him easier
-says Dean and the monster make a deal in purgatory to help each other get out
-new characters introduced in the premiere
-his episode (8.3 or 8.4, he wasn't sure) is a MOTW, which he seems to like and calls their "original format"
-his episode is about Mayan gods who steal organs for sacrifices
-frolicking in the fields with Amelia & dog is a flashback
-Cas will always be harder to relate to as an angel because he's "unnatural" as opposed to Sam, who is tangible. And Dean can "touch that" (rawr!)
-Sam is focused on getting Kevin back in the episode he is directing (guess he cares now for some reason? lol)

AND HE LOOKS REALLY BLOND, OKAY.

This is gonna be good. I find her and Sam v attractive together and I enjoy the complexity of one character falling for another dude's wife, a dude who is taken over by an angel.

What do you consider character bashing? How far does a character have to go in a fic to be bashed rather than simply villainized? I'm wondering because the accusation of character bashing has been rather prominent on the FD recently and I'm wondering if the definition has evolved or authors are just less aware of what they're doing?

More specific case study type questions:

Two scenes of a longfic use a female character in the role of a "villain." Angry ex-girlfriend, bad customer, mean boss type roles. Is this bashing?

A woman shows up in a fic being excessively annoying and/or following the useless girl, overachiever, or similar female stereotype, but otherwise isn't a horrible person, doesn't die or disappear, etc. Is that bashing?

If either of these roles were actually men instead of women, would that be bashing?

(For a more specific example, does warning for Chad count as character bashing? If he's the obnoxious best friend, but does nothing else horrible, is it bashing?)

Okay, so if you're going to write hooker!Dean, I'm with you. I'm down with that. That is a kink. Score!

But if you're going to write hooker!Dean who is hooking to make ends meet after John's abandoned them, can we please get a bit of logic here? If Dean's so terribly concerned about cash, he's not going to indulge a pack a day smoking habit. Those are expensive! He's also not going to go out and hit the clubs because he needs to get drunk. Also expensive! And he's also not likely to resist getting a 9-5 job. He does his hooking at night anyway!

I think we've wanked the time-jump shenanigans as much as we can, so what about the "quest" everyone is going to be on this year?

Season 8 will also see the newly reunited brothers chasing after what Edlund calls an important "power source." "For the first time in a long time they are starting the season on offense," Carver said. "They want something, and it really ties into the deep mythology. [It's] something that is very near and dear to their hearts."

Or as Carver told TVGuide.com following the panel, "When we say this time it's personal, we mean it."

Also:

The theme of this season is about the quest Sam and Dean embark upon. "This time it's personal" and ties back to the earlier days of the show. The arc for the season leads into plans for future seasons as well; the mythology is "planting things."

So what could be that personal?

My theory: THE SOUL OF JOHN WINCESTER

I have to drop out of BB. My posting date isn't until next month but I know I won't be able to finish. I want to post about it so people won't expect the story but I've got an issue that I wanted to get meme's opinion on first.

See, my artist dropped out of communication months ago. The fault for not finishing is completely on me but it really sucked that the first person I shared my story with didn't care about it. It shook my confidence a lot and that always gives me terrible writer's block. It's still completely my own fault for not finishing but I feel like I should thank them for what they did and yet at the same time, their disinterest really hurt my feelings and I don't want to acknowledge them at all.

So what to do? Say thanks (even though I'm not actually thankful and feel pretty hurt by them abandoning the project) or just say I can't finish and not mention them at all?

The spoilers and Season 8 can go to hell, but the Comic Con gifs have made me want a story where handsome prince!Jared ravishes and rescues beautiful princess!Jared.

Neither of them is genderswapped. They are both Jared. Also it's not an older Jared and a younger Jared. They are both identical versions of today's Jared, only one of them is a prince and one of them is a princess. Yes they both have penises.

Viking!Jared and nun!Jared would also be acceptable, or indeed pimp!Jared and ho!Jared.

Is this a thing that exists in fandom? Even with someone other than Jared? Also, how is Jared so manly and yet so feminine at the same time, what even is that?

I was watching some CC interviews with Jeremy Carver and he keeps mentioning how important flashbacks are going to play this Season.

He seems to indicate that there will be so many flashbacks that it will almost alter the format of the show some. Carver said the flashbacks would showcase Sam and Dean's time apart.

So how is that going to work?

Specifically, how are the Sam flashbacks going to work? If Sam really got out of the hunting life, how much of his normal, everyday joe life can the writers really show us before it gets boring? I have no desire to see Sam living the that life for episode after episode, even in short flashbacks sequences. Yeah sure, an episode or two. But definitely not dragged out all season.

While Purgatory flashbacks definitely work and I am actually super excited to see them, I am just now worried about how the writers will balance the Dean and Sam flashbacks....when Dean's sound like they going to be 10x as interesting as Sam's.

And the Cockles and D/C fandoms have taken over. Anyone else feel this way? I go on Tumblr and Wincest/J2 popularity has really died down. The notes for Wincest/J2 gif's, art, photos etc have all died down and now it seems as though Cockles and D/C is so much more popular. This makes me really depressed to be honest..

I guess Supernatural really has changed so much. I look at the spnkinkmeme and both D/C and Jensen/Misha are taking over big time.

...made me start wondering about how the reunion is even going to take place. It sort of sounds like Dean is already out when we open the season and Sam has chosen to stay in his normal life until this "very personal quest" thing brings them together.

You’re going to see the boys come together. How they come together in episode 1 could be interesting but they do come together. They’re going to come together in pursuit of one thing that’s very very personal for them. It harkens back to their earliest days. It signals the moment that these guys are really trying to play off as getting something that they really, really want. If there was a slightly cheesy sounding theme for the first half of the season it would be “This time it’s personal.” Put that on a poster, put that on a bumper sticker, there were go.

Thoughts?

So I just learned that S8 is going to have a new mytharc and that there are going to be a lot of flashbacks. I ~deduce that there is going to be a jump in time then and I also won't be surprised by this new structure. How these things are not spoilers is completely beyond me. >:( I should have known better than to come here.
