OK in this Jensen interview it sounds like Dean comes back from Purgatory remembering why he's a hunter and back into the life. Sam is "hesitant" because he's been off "smelling the roses" but Dean basically drags him back into hunting.

Oh, gross. That's two things I very much did NOT want, all wrapped up with a bow. :(

If Dean is really All About Hunting again, it's going to piss me off so much. I've wanted Dean to start taking pleasure in the hunt for ages now, to be able to get something back from it instead of it wearing him down to nubs, but not if it just comes out of the blue. Not after seven freaking years spent developing it.

I don't think it's gonna play out as "out of the blue"... he's been in Purgatory, and we're going to see bit by bit what happened to him there (and according to the showrunners, it's gonna be a big story that plays out for a good, long while). So we'll probably see what's led him to have this rebirth of enthusiasm... we may not see it right away, but as the flashbacks unfold.

TBH, I don't trust them with handling that sort of thing in flashback form AT ALL. They've failed with it both times they've tried and it's such a huge and integral part of Dean's characterization that it feels almost an insult to do it in flashback form.

So domestic!Dean in reverse?

Why can't they at least leave a few years between recycled plotlines? :(

Well to be fair Sam is just going back to his Pilot!Sam roots not domestic!Dean. Sam has his own separate normal life issues that was never truly resolved.

So they are basically erasing the last seven-eight years and doing a reset. Why are these people employed again?

That's actually awful, because we've seen Sam growing out of that mindset. We've seen him thinking different. He's not S1 Sam.

I can't believe they didn't think of that. Character grown is not reverting to what we had 7 years ago (9 for them since we have 2 extra years, right?)

What in the last 7 or 8 miserable years would make Sam want to embrace the hunting life and not want to return to a pedestrian existence? Without revenge fueling him like in S4, I really think the main appeal for him in hunting was being with Dean.

Imo, and if I were Sam (or Dean) I'd never go to a 'normal' person and try to get the 'normal' life. Reason? Because everytime, every-fucking-time they've tried, things went wrong. Very wrong. Blood and guts kind of wrong.

Sam has said several times there's no way to get out the life, that he's a freak, etc. We've seen what happened with Lisa/Ben, and I bet he still remembers what was of Jess. and something will happen again, you and I, every fan, and Sam if he's not a moron, know it will.

I know some people would say I'm being too hard and they deserve love and whatever, yes, they do, but we all know these things end up bad. and till this season, I'd say Sam knew too.

I don't know how messed-up is Amelia (and if that's good or not) but I doubt she's been Lucifer or that she's had some hollydays in Hell. There's no way Sam is good news.

So, I'm not only talking of hunting, that I may understand he gives up (people make difficult decissions sometimes) but having a wife and a family? Hmm, she's a bit selfish,and this time not only to Dean.

He's not having a wife and family. He dates Amelia for a while and they're on a break by the time the season begins, so it's less than a year. And he was planning on permanently retiring. I don't think Sam and Dean really need to stay single for the rest of their lives, and if a person knows the facts and chooses to have an arrangement like Garth and his partner's, or like Lisa and Dean tried for a bit, that's a legit choice they should be able to make.

Huh, it just occurred to me--is Sam going to have a job? Or is Amelia his sugarmama? Or is it more of S7's magic money?

It says he gets a job and a dog.

We can wank about whether his chosen employment is suitable for introverts.

I know a couple of strippers who are introverts, they seem happy with their job/money.

Prostitutes don't have to do a lot of socializing, right? There we go. So Amelia isn't his sugar momma, but rather his pimp/madame, and Sam is going to try to work through his body issues via lots and lots of sex.

What about the dog, tho? Do they pimp out the dog?

Maybe the dog is for a few regulars who are into some really kinky shit. Maybe Sam's issues are so serious that it's not enough to be fucked by humans all day, he also craves the humiliation of being fucked by a dog. Or maybe it's a woobie therapy dog.
