If everything said about Sam pans out, I'm going to have lost my ability to enjoy or empathize with Sam's character and his relationship with Dean, which is a large enough part of the show that I will have lost my ability to enjoy the show.

If everything said about Dean pans out, I'll still like Dean fine and probably find his storyline a lot more gripping than last year's.

This is why I am upset about the Sam stuff and not about the Dean stuff.

Seriously. All that tells me is that the ayrt isn't particularly invested in Dean but is probably over invested in Sam.

DA Not really we've been here before in S4, the EDGs are going to rip Sam a new asshole. Sam girls have plenty to worry about. It's not going to be pretty on all sides. Don't be naive.

Nothing about the spoilers has the potential to get Dean a hailstorm of hate otoh.

Dean's spoilers has equally the same potential for a negative response and if it were Sam in his position, I'm sure we'd get the same exact OTT complaints about them.

I'm not upset about Sam's spoilers because of hypothetical reactions to them; I'm upset about them because of my actual reaction to them.

If Dean had Sam's spoilers and situation, I wouldn't like Dean, unless there were some rabbit out of a hat to come.

If Sam had Dean's spoilers, well, I would respond a little more negatively than I have for Dean. Partly because the working with a monster and covering would be more repetitive for Sam than it is for Dean, partly because in the recent past Dean has been the one more willing to do things like work with Meg, and Sam has been more reluctant, so I'd have a harder time reconciling it with Sam's recent character. But in either case I find the making a give and take deal with a monster to escape purgatory perfectly comprehensible. With what they are doing with Sam, I literally cannot wrap my mind around it. That just isn't true of what they are doing with Dean.

I'm sorry it upsets you that people are reacting to the spoilers differently than you are, but your own reaction to their reactions seems, well, OTT and overreacty.

I don't have an issue with your reaction to it. It's this concept that Dean's got this peaches and cream awesome storyline while Sam has the sucktastic sucky suck suck one that bugs me, not to mention that it's been a full day of it now. It's like the endless complaints after 7.17 all over again. It's made meme a very boring place to be for the past day.

Maybe you should have started a thread saying that the following Dean spoilers were bothering you for the following reasons and seen if anyone wanted to talk about it? Bearing in mind that not all might agree with your take, just as you don't agree with some people's take on the Sam spoilers. That's probably more likely to balance the discussion than the approach you have taken, which hasn't exactly come across as an invitation to dialogue. "Stop talking about X because it's annoying me and talk about Y instead" is never the greatest opener to a conversation about Y.

DA - nobody's saying Dean's story is fucking awesome - it doesn't sound great, but it doesn't sound like character assassination.

I don't have nearly as much of a negative reaction to the Benny spoilers at this point, because after all the times they've worked with Crowley and Meg over the years (not to mention the alpha!vamp, ghost!Bobby, the witch-dude from this season, etc etc., working with supernatural entities when they have to has become something they do. It's not shocking or upsetting the way it was when Sam worked with Ruby, because they do it all the freakin' time. And AFAIK, Dean's not exchanging any bodily fluids with Benny, so I just don't see it as that big of a deal.

No, nonnie, people are going to hate Dean for the Benny thing just as hard. Surviving in purgatory, using monsters to get out like a badass. That's, like, horrible. Only you see, the Deangirls aren't a whiny bunch, they wouldn't complain about this injustice. Very mature of them.

Oh yes, absolutely. Because fandom has always responded so well when one brother has been forced to work with a ~~demon~~ monster when they're separated. Fandom has never complained about that before!

Did you miss the posts calling Dean an asshole for resenting that Sam didn't look for him? Or are you just deliberately ignoring them because they don't fit your narrative?

Most people think his resentment is going to be justified.

well, I'm not a Dean"!girl, but can't deny it's justified.
But I think some of those post were trolling, anyway. Too OTT.
