On the outside chance that you're serious about this, if we found out that Sam actually WAS suffering some kind of trauma or brain damage (which I would absolutely believe, if Show took that direction) I would be wholly intrigued. And would very much buy that as a reason that Sam just kind of moved on.
But to say that Sam doesn't know what happened to Dean? No, he might be brain damaged, but he's not an idiot. And even if he didn't know, he wouldn't stop until he found out.
