YES PLEASE. I'm finding that after all that's happened, all I really want out of this season is a Sam-and-Dean who're believably invested in each other's well-being.

But I don't know how these spoilers point in anything other than the opposite direction of that. Sam gives up. Dean resents him for it. Sam goes back to hunting so does he then resent Dean for that?

How in the world does that lead to being "invested in each other's well being"?

It seems like the writers are just not thinking through how Sam will come across, not that he deliberately wanted him to seem callous and uncaring towards down. They think explaining that Sam thought Dean was dead is explanation enough.

I think that it's sad that the writers don't seem to give a shit about how one of their leads is going to come across, especially when they know that this show has a huge fandom that is very emotionally invested in these characters and their relationship.

I just don't understand how Sam could really think Dean is dead, considering he just zapped out. And in one of the newer press interviews, I saw something from Jared that said something about Sam not knowing where Dean was (something about how he could be in Paris! In the Louvre! Other nonsensical Jared things) so he figures he can't do anything about it and gives up. I mean, they've read the first three scripts, so they already have a good idea about what he tells Dean when Dean gets back.

Heh, I'm not exactly confident that this season will make me happy; I'm reserving judgment till I've got some eps under my belt. I'm just saying that anymore, the investment-in-each-other thing seems to be my one serious criterion, and the lack of it from Sam and Dean is a huge part of what's curtailed my pleasure in the last couple of seasons.

Dean's resentment doesn't strike me as being douchey or mean. It's pretty natural and human, IMO. And Sam's giving up doesn't feel mean either, since he thought Dean was dead. It feels a bit contrived, but not in a mean, petty, or small minded kind of way.

IDK though. I mean, some conflict between them doesn't really feel like a bad thing to me right now. S7 had virtually no conflict and it was dull as hell, especially from a Sam and Dean front. It doesn't need to go back to S4 levels of tension to make things interesting, especially if we get some honest affection to go with it.

Oh, I agree completely with Dean's resentment, especially when you consider the issues he has with abandonment (especially Sam's). I'm just sad that once again we get a reunion tinged with resent and mistrust instead of "fuck yeah, I got my brother back!". It feels redundant to me, instead of something that is supposed to help their relationship.

And this Benny characters feels too much like Dean's Ruby

Even the 6.12 reunion, which was the least fraught of all, had to have Dean concealing the soullessness and Sam finding out, even if Sam took it well. I just don't see why this time they couldn't have Sam work something out to retrieve Dean, or have Dean find his way out but come back to Sam still working on the problem, and have Dean positively affected by Sam's presence in his life.

In fact, I can't see this to such an extent that I am still half expecting that we are having wool pulled over our eyes for some big twist.

Yeah, I get you there. :( It would be really, really nice to get a reunion that didn't involve lies and mistrust for once. The only reunion we've had completely along those lines was the Pilot. :(

Agreed about Benny. IDG that either. What's the point of Dean covering up that he let a monster out when he was desperate to escape? And it sounds like he's hiding the fact that Benny is causing problems on earth or feels indebted to him or something? Which, really don't understand. He was technically indebted to the angels for pulling his ass out of Hell to begin with and while that made him willing to give them the benefit of the the doubt (eventually) it also didn't make him inclined to go along with their plans if he didn't like them.

believaly and these spoilers just don't go well together.
