Wincest/J2 fandoms have died...

And the Cockles and D/C fandoms have taken over. Anyone else feel this way? I go on Tumblr and Wincest/J2 popularity has really died down. The notes for Wincest/J2 gif's, art, photos etc have all died down and now it seems as though Cockles and D/C is so much more popular. This makes me really depressed to be honest..

I guess Supernatural really has changed so much. I look at the spnkinkmeme and both D/C and Jensen/Misha are taking over big time.

Way to make those of us still writing and prompting Sam/Dean feel like shit since apparently we don't matter and act like D/C and Cockles are terrible depressing things. You just single-handledly insulted almost all of fandom.

I'm saying it's depressing for me as a Wincester and a J2 supporter. That's all. D/C and Cockles don't depress me, even though I don't ship them. It's more the fact that Wincest and J2 has died down so much and another ship has taken over. I guess I'm a bit nostalgic in that sense.

Nonnie, I understand where you're coming from. it seems to be really hard to come across a wincester and j2 shipper these days. Everyone ships d/c and jensen/misha now. :/

I will grant that I think D/C has become a larger ship than S/D (though that is still huge), but J2 is still WAY bigger than Jensen/Misha. I think even Mishalecki might be almost as big as Jensen/Misha. There just isn't the same RPF mirroring on the D/C side of fandom.

Check out l_d's post about the spoilers. A lot of writers said they killed any inspiration they may have had for SDMB. :(

LOL the best part of that post is when missyjack bitched out someone for having negative thoughts about the spoilers because she was in the wrong tab and thought it was in her journal. It seems anyone that dares to be sad is a "hater"

Well what did you expect? The show has been complete shit for three seasons now. Most J2 and Wincesters became fans in the earlier seasons when the show was great, so they have been leaving in droves. Cockles fans and D/C shippers are mostly newer fans who only cares about the show when Cas is on.

I don't know, man. I think it's the attitude.

Wincest shippers feel defeated. Destiel, as a ship, has received just as many blows as Wincest, or more, and has much less canon to work on (not trying to create wank, I think this is objetive, right?). But they still scream at the top of their lungs for their ship, and honestly believe Destiel will be canon. Wincest shippers sometimes seem, not sure, maybe ashamed? defeated? I've seen some wincest fans say they don't reblog wincest stuff because their followers would be disgusted, etc.

Also, some Wincest fans are among the oldest fans of the series, and they miss the old days, and don't feel the fandom is the same anymore, etc, prefering to live their memories or the golden days of SPN.

Tunblr is very pro-Castiel, that's true, but I think the different attitude makes the difference.

About J2, I think it's still very popular. I see much more J2 than anything Misha.

Dean left Castiel to rot at the hospital with a demon as a nurse, and Destiel shippers still love and cheer their pairing. Jensen calls Destiel 'Deathsiel', etc, but they're still happy.

Wincest fans are already giving up before the season starts. See the difference?

I understand cause I strongly sympathize. I'm a wincester myself and I feel like everything is D/C now. I'm on Tumblr, so it makes it even more depressing and unbearable. Don't worry, you are not alone.

I really think all of the Wincesters have left fandom a few seasons ago. A lot of Sam'n'Dean fans have left fandom as well. That's why fandom seems so dead overall and it seems as though D/C has taken over. Because many Wincest and Sam'n'Dean fans have departed fandom.

it's impossible to get actual numbers on this so it's difficult to speculate. but my impression is that most D/C fans skew younger, are therefore more active on tumblr and twitter than S/D shippers, and their voices are "louder" because they're the ones being active about it: tweeting, making youtube comments, posting on tumblr, etc.

however when you look at fanwork output on LJ, S/D and J2 work still dominate. and there's still a good number of wincest shippers on the websites I've mentioned previously. even more if you count in people who multiship.

so which one is actually more popular? I really don't know and I think it's an interesting question. don't let the wain in popularity get you down, keep shipping what you want to ship and loving S/D if that's what makes you happy.

I came into this fandom years ago as a die hard S/Der. Over the years my horizons expanded to include D/C, J2 and eventually Cockles.

At this point, I'm much more likely to ship even Cockles than S/D, though I still love S/D like it's my baby. It just feels like everything has been done at this point and the new material isn't much of a base for anything.

The fact that I can't deal with AU S/D might have something to do with it, since with all other ships I like AU better than canon.

I know that feeling, nonnie. But my feels have been reignited by this little blurb of text I stumbled upon! It is so the S1-2 relationship between Sam and Dean. :)
