It's not like you have to go that far back for that Sam. I'd be perfectly happy with s7 Sam, or late s6 Sam. I have no idea where s8 Sam is coming from. Or who is supposed to enjoy this. I mean, it might make the ESH Sam has always been a selfish bastard fans happy, but I thought most of them had dropped out of fandom or gone quiet or retreated to the five people still posting at TWoP anyway.
