I know everyone's complaining about the show being a pale imitation of what it once was but on the bright side SPN is no longer the red headed stepchild of the CW. I actually see it promoted on the network nowadays, and the move to Wednesdays was a pretty big deal. That coupled with the move to actively negotiate with the actors means that there's a chance the show will actually have an audience. In general I like how the new president is focusing more of his energies on shows like SPN/Arrow/Nikita (renewed despite worst ratings on the network holla) and ditching stuff like ANTM.

Some of the best "Supernatural" episodes have explored time travel -- and this season, they're taking a new angle on the classic genre. This time, though, it's not Sam and Dean doing the decade-hop.

In episode 812, titled "As Time Goes By," we'll see a cult forming in 1958. The anti-demonic group has good intentions, as does Henry, a rookie member who joins the cult with the intention of protecting his 7-year-old son.

Described as "Robert Downey Jr. meets Cary Grant," Henry is dapper, smart, and considerably cocky... until he rips open a time portal and finds himself hurtled into 2013, where he's a little off his game. He doesn't time-travel alone, though. He's followed through the portal by 28-year-old Josie Sands, a sexy, strong Katharine Hepburn type... with a secret.

Needless to say, when Sam and Dean happen upon the time travelers in their hunt for a bloodthirsty demon, shenanigans ensue. Not to mention -- Henry's son would be 62 at this point, and we'd certainly expect him to factor in somehow.

what do you think about fandom charity auctions?

Usually if I want to donate money I just donate money but since I don't have all that much to spare right now I'm considering signing up for the most recent charity auction at fandomaid. It just feels a little weird to me but I'm not sure why. I mean charity organizations also often compensates the donators in some way by sending brochures, giving them gold membership or whatever, right? Is my problem that I'm not directly associated with whichever charity will receive the money?
Explain my hesitation to me, meme.

I read "It's the Bluepring of Your Life", a Sam/Dean fic about post-s4 Sam being thrown back to s3 and getting a second chance at saving Dean and at a HEA. I really enjoyed it, would definitely rec.

Is it just me or does the writing on this episode seem really bad already? I actually cringed Dean's delivery of the line at the end of this one, and between that clip and a short promo they showed during Nikita (apparently Garth gets some "Balls!" in too) I've gone from excited at the initial promo to just overflowing with secondhand embarrassment.

Is Dean becoming "gayer"?

So I read several metas that says Dean seem to be showing less interest in women and more in men on show. I fully support the idea that for some people sexuality is fluid so I don't worry about whether or not Dean used to be straight or not. But do you find him "gayer" (I know is not an elegant way to say it.)?

I think that anyone who believes they'll actually show Dean being in a relationship with a man is kidding themselves. The CW isn't that willing to rock the boat.

That being said, I don't think we've seen Dean interacting with women as much, but I don't know that it means he's "gayer." I would put it more to the alcoholic depressive fugue he's been in; he's no longer interested in things he used to like, and sex is one of them. Or maybe there just haven't been as many women on the show. IDK.

I went to Vancon. I am a complete spastic in front of Jensen. I had no anticipation's about Jared as he is not my type, so I was not shy with him or had any preconceived notions about him. BUT BIG BUT I was stunned as to how BEAUTIFUL he was in person, so much more better looking than the camera gives us on SPN, he was just lovely and his HAIR suited him perfectly. /imdb

Oh, Crossroad Blues. Such an excellent episode. Usual Suspects is one of the S2 eps that I kinda find boring (though Dean being kidnapped and threatened is always nice, as is Sam being a Big Damn Hero coming to the rescue), but Crossroad Blues is just gorgeous. I love everything from the opening to Dean's clear temptation to free John and performing an exorcism. Just gorgeously filmed and such wonderful (and tragic) foreshadowing for the rest of the season.

Doing it all again

There's an AU trope where a character wakes up in the past, in the body of their past self. If you got to choose, which character would end up in the past and at which point? S4!Dean in Stanford era? S5!Sam in S2? John from IMToD on November 2, 1983? What sort of changes do you think would spin out from this?

Also, several months ago, maybe even over a year, there was a really fun AU time travel thread that I was involved. In it, Anna succeeded in preventing Sam from being born and somehow S5!Sam ended up in 1983. Since baby!Sam wasn't around, YED used Dean instead and since he was four, there was no baby monitor to wake Mary up and send her to check on him, so she lived. It was an awesome thread, really long and we plotted out this fantastic story with John thinking that Mary was trying to hurt Dean (she was just trying to test him for demonic influence, iirc) and so he took Dean and ran, and Mary teamed up with S5!Sam to find them and Meg and YED were involved and it was just a whole lot of fun.

Do any of the tracking nonnies possibly have a link to it? I'd love to read it over again. :)

I've found a handful of fics on AO3, but I joined the comm for it and I feel pretty sure that it has had one post since I joined weeks ago. Is it out there and I'm just not finding it, or is it just... not out there?

I've only seen a snippet here or there. There's not a whole lot of it though, as far as I'm aware. I don't think there's much S8 fic in general and virtually none with Benny in it. Most of the Purgatory stuff was written based on what we knew of Purgatory at the end of S7, so it's all "Dean and Castiel in Purgatory" or "Sam rescues Dean and Castiel from Purgatory".

Hell, I've come across more "Sam rescues Dean and Cas from Purgatory and they bring a broken woobie Gabriel with them and Sam slowly tends to Gabriel's broken psyche and/or wings and/or there is sex" fic than I have anything with Benny. It seems like people like him though, so maybe once more S8 fic is written there'll be more fic with him in it?
