Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)theoldcapn is her former blog that she kept up and running for reference and such. Her current name is thecapn, but feel free to look through her old blog, it's chock full of lovely meta goodies and some great drabbles. She's one of those Wincest shippers who doesn't hate on other ships involving Sam or Dean, which is very refreshing for me as a multishipper.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)please don't tell me she post everything as tags. Nothing is worth reading as tags.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)No, that's an occasional thing. Most of her good stuff is plain 'ol text posts or answers to questions.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe a few do, but it's not the normal thing for Wincest shippers to actively hate on other ships.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)That has not been my experience as a multishipper who leans towards Sam/Dean. D:
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)I know most OTPers don't hate on other ships, but just like when Dean and Cas have a moment on the show and meme's ESG turn into a black hole of anger, some OTPers on tumblr do the same.
Just because an opinion is expressed in a mild and respectful way (i.e. no keysmashing, expletives, cursing writers and directors alike) doesn't mean it's not hating on the other ships. I've seen mail and respectful hate from lots of OTPers both Wincest and Destiel so I reiterate my point of "[it] is very refreshing for me as a multishipper."

Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)I see. But 'refreshing' implies, imo, that is more common than not to find haters. I don't agree with that, but maybe I just don't consider hate what other nonnies do.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)These were not many tumblrs, mind you, but considering I've witnessed precisely zero (except, of course, for that obvious troll I have blocked...) D/Cers with the same disclaimer, that goes to say something.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)People can't help what they dislike (and just because they don't put it on their profile doesn't mean their opinion is any different), and I don't think there's a good reason tom ask them to stop themselves from expressing their feelings in their own blog, as long as they don't tag their negative opinions and they're not real rude. So that kind of disclaimer is IMO a good thing.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)I think it's good because then I can avoid them. I just don't have the time for anyone who gets that bothered by a character or a ship. There's characters and ships that I don't care for but my dislike of them is a very small and minor part of who I am and not at all how I want to describe myself.
Anyone who feels that hating on a fictional character or pairing is so important that they need to proclaim it to the world is really someone I don't want to hang out with or waste any time on. If they're that petty about a ship or a pairing, they'll be that petty about other things too. Better to avoid from the get go.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)idk, I guess my opinion is that those are fandom blogs, so I'm not taking anything as serious business. I follow a couple girls that have that kind of disclaimer, and, honestly, they're very polite, never post hate or rude comments, and they're not batshit about fictional things.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)Eh, maybe a couple of girls who do that thing are awesome people but generally speaking, I haven't missed out on not associating with those who would rather be upfront about how much they hate a character or pairing. They don't need to actually go out and spam others with their hate for me to sideeye them and want nothing to do with them. You've almost got to take pride in how much you dislike something to proclaim it to the world which is a warning sign for me. It's like a big flashing DO NOT ENGAGE motif.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)As I said,it's not a big issue to me. You hate X character? Okay. If you hate the character I like, I won't follow you, that's it. It's not like you hate my family or anything. Just a fictional character, and it's a fandom blog after all.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)MTE. In my experience, these people simply want an old-fashioned experience of fangirling Supernatural The Show With Two Main Characters, as opposed to Tumblr's preferred TFW.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)The disclaimers I've seen have been more along the lines of "fyi I don't like X character and/or Y ship" and it's meant as a deterrent for people who would disagree with their opinion if and when they state it.
Despite that I've seen plenty of instances where someone says "hey I don't like this thing X character did" and then they get five messages with people attacking them or demanding they explain why they don't like them etc etc. It's ridiculous but that's what happens, so I don't think saying up front that hey you might find some stuff in this blog you don't like badly reflects on the person making it nor is it the sum total of what their blog is about. It's helpful in my case, because it saves me the trouble of checking their tags, looking at their archive, and everything else I do to make sure I don't make the mistake of following someone I'll dislike.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)See, I'd rather just block things tagged with that character or that ship if it bothers me enough. Some people take the whole "I don't like X" as a challenge, which I think is pretty stupid. But then my stated policy is "avoid avoid avoid" and so challenging people for disliking something in their own personal space is just being a dick, IMO. Just like going out to a space for those who like something and stating how much you dislike it is being a dick.
But there's also a major difference between liking a character and liking everything they do, just as there is one between disliking a character and disliking everything they do. I can like X but dislike some of X's individual actions. Saying in advance that I dislike X when I actually like X, I just didn't like this one thing X did doesn't help anything either.
I've been better off avoiding anyone who needs to put as part of their introduction that they dislike a fictional character. They can go off and continue their disliking of whatever and I can go off and continue not having the negativity of it around me. It's win win.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)That could have some logic, if those same people didn't go around commenting and talking back at fans who dig stuff they dislike. Well, they do, with plenty of spite to go around.
Either way, stating "I hate character X" or "I hate fans of X/Y ship", right in the tumblr's introduction, in the context of a common fandom (SPN), just seems all around odd to me. When I dislike something, I simply ignore and don't mention it.
Re: On occasion Tumblr's good for something..
(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)I guess that depends on the individual. As I saidto another nonnie, I follow a couple of blogs with that disclaimer (they say ?I don't like X', but not 'I hate X' which is different for me) and they're polite and nice.
Tumblr is good because things get a lot of difussion and stuff, but that exact thing is an issue too, because no matter what, the chances to see something you don't like are very high, because people reblog from others. It's not like LJ where you are friends with someone and you don't get to see where that other person comments unless you are following the same things. I think it creates hate and makes fan wars worse. Tags often help to this, too, becase people hate rude or unfortunate comments.
But if you can avoid a certain blog (hey, you can even block them) you'll have less chances (never zero, of course) of seeing posts and comments you dislike or read opinions that you may find offensive.
So I still don't see the problem with that disclaimer.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)Yes, I agree those are 2 different things. That's exactly what I'm arguing all this time.
