Sorry, I don't live in the US and I don't really understand your voting system but international news channel are saying all indicates Mitt Romney will win. Some of them even get angry saying it.

Look at the bright side, the man has a hot son.

Eh, another non USian here, and a major chain of bookies here has literally already paid out on Obama winning. I don't know what channel you're watching but it's wrong.

This thread is totally nervewracking.

Trust the betting sites, not the pundits. Particularly betting sites from outside the US as they're not skewed by wealthy Republicans with a bad and expensive case of wishful thinking. Pundits are paid to talk rubbish.

Betting sites are giving Obama about an 80% chance of winning. Poll analysts like fivethirtyeight are giving him an even better chance. Romney can only win if there is severe systemic bias in all the polls everywhere. (Or if the Republican voter suppression tactics are extraordinarily effective.)

Or yours are wrong. In my country we know Obama winning is good for us, Latin America knows Obama winning is good for us so I doubt news channel are rooting for Romney.

Maybe preparing for a worst case scenario? God knows that's what I'd consider it to be. If Romney wins, the only thing I can do is hope that he was spewing a lot of shit he didn't actually mean to stir up the hard core conservative base. Unfortunately, at best, that would only mean fewer efforts at limiting reproductive, women's, and gay rights. It'll still mean a massive cutback of government assistance programs.

Should I trust CNN? That's the only channel who is paying attention to the US elections.

Doubt it. They have a vested interest in making it look neck and neck; it will get more viewers watching if there's suspense. Plus if they say Obama's nearly certain to win, and then he doesn't, they'll suffer reputationally. So their incentives are to say it's too close to call. But it's not.

CNN isn't willing to say one has a lead over the other, plus they seem to be relying more on national polls rather than state polls. National polls show a much tighter race, but state polls are probably more accurate.

CNN is very good in terms of coverage, however; they're fair and unbiased towards either side, despite claims of other stations. :)

I am from the US and most of the news stations are claiming a very close race, with Obama taking a very (very) slight lead with the exception of Fox News, which has been swearing that Romney is the shoe-in ever since he was confirmed as the Republican nominee (before which they hated him).

The best breakdown I've seen is Five Thirty Eight (http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/), which puts Obama as having a major advantage: 86.3% chance of winning based on polls as of last night. It gives me hope, but I'm still really, really worried about it.

And pfft towards the Romney sons. They do nothing for me.

IDK what channels you're watching, anon, but there is very little chance of a Romney win. Obama has a lead in the popular vote nationally, and is leading in most of the swing states. The popular vote may be a tie, but there is very little chance of Obama losing the electoral college.

Healthcare rescinded, poor people kicked off benefits in an economy with very poor health prospects, income inequality and all the attendant destructive social effects which are already kicking in hard in the US exacerbated, the functions of the federal government carved up and sold off to the highest bidder or a crony from school, even more power to ruin us all handed over to unaccountable irresponsible plutocrats in the finance sector... it's pretty much end times. The infrastructure of the developed world barely survived Bush and we were in pretty good shape before he happened. Romney coming to power with the world in the shape it's in now... end times. Joss Whedon's zombie apocalypse video wasn't far off.
