This is where I'll post my episode reactions for Firefly so that I don't annoy tracking!nonnies on the main page.
And I guess I'll keep posting for as long as anyone is interested.
FEEL FREE TO ORGANIZE THE REWATCHING THING HERE. OR I DUNNO. LET YOUR NOSTALGIA RUN WILD OR WHATEVER? OR TEACH ME YOUR BROWNCOAT WAYS. 8DDDD

I feel that Firefly and SPN are natural crossover fodder. They have so many things in common! MANY OF THOSE THINGS ARE THIGH HOLSTERS.
(Others are incest ships, bar brawling, and a love of engines.)
You've inspired me to rewatch, n00b!nonnie! I watched through 'Shindig' before I went to bed, whereupon I collapsed in a puddle of sheer, unadulterated Kaylee ♥ ♥ ♥
So today, 'Safe' and 'Our Mrs Reynolds'? YAY BOOBIES!! (you'll see what I mean)

I'm trying out a new, old show, a British series called Urban Gothic. I think it ran sometime in the early 2000s. Anyone heard of it, have any feedback (I'm only 2 min into my first episode)?
I'm not from the UK but I think I remember it. Wasn't it a little horror movie each episode?
Okay, so does anyone know what the hell is up with Tinypic, why its search function takes me straight to the oh so sucky Photobucket? If I wanted to search Photobucket, I'd fucking search Photobucket!
But Photobucket--and its "policies"--suck, so I don't. But now I can't actually search TinyPic.
Tl;dr, why don't these fucking corporations understand that I don't really WANT a fucking circle jerk of a mega-conglomeration?

Throwing this out into the wind so it's out of me and somewhere else. Just feeling like my life is spiraling out of control and I'm just along for the ride. Just wanted to bug as few people as humanly possible with it. Maybe I'll just try and enjoy the ride and see where it ends up, sometimes you just can't control shit, huh?
Sorry you're having a tough time of it, nonnie.
Is the nonnie who I talked to about shipping K/S, a week or so ago, here?
I just read the most wonderful Kirk/Spock fic. That I think could even convert this nonnie. And I usually prefer pairing Jim with McCoy.
If anyone would like to read it - http://garryowen.dreamwidth.org/65971.html

(Not your K/S!nonnie) Yay, a rec I haven't read! And by an author I know is good.
Everyone have an awesome day!
I watch various cooking shows and am always seeing great stuff. I want to try some cake, cookie, brownie recipes.
In the interest of trying to keep things as low calorie as possible, I was thinking of trying Splenda or Truvia. How is this stuff for baking? My main concern is whether it leaves any weird chemical taste and/or after taste in baked goods?

OP - forgot to add that I've spent money for ingredients in the past that ended up not living up to the cost.
Don't ask about the time I spent carfare on a trip to find cardamom for a recipe, and found that the specialty store wanted over $10 for a little jar of it. And the end product wasn't so hot for all that. I'd rather ask here then spend the money for Splenda, then find out it's all hype and end up with something I'll not be using.

Anyone have any recs for fandoms that have it? Does Chicago have a fandom? Surely there's some good stuff there. Rec whatever you have, I'm sure even if it isn't to my tastes, someone else will like it.
Knowledgeable nonnies, help me out. Because of all the praise I saw I'm thinking about giving this another try. Problem is, I found the first four or five episodes boring as hell, so now I'm wondering if maybe I should just skip season 1 and start with season 2. Is that possible plotwise or will I be completely confused? Where do you suggest I start? Any specific episode from which on it gets interesting?
The plot moves SO FAST that I really wouldn't recommend skipping anything. Just suffer through it and know that eventually it gets SO MUCH BETTER!
Seriously, just start from the last one you saw or mid season 1.

If so, is this show worth a try (both plot and eyecandy wise)?
Re: Now in the correct post: Any Southland watchers around?
(Anonymous) 2011-02-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)I watched a few episodes of the 1st season and I liked it. I think it's worth a try.
This doesn't belong in the main or the fiction thread(s), but I trust meme's taste, so i figured I'd ask here for recs. Some of my old favorites are long gone
the_dystopian or have since started epic stories that I can't imagine starting without a rec. Google ain't helping and it seems the people who used to be the people of reference (Rispa Cooper) for this kind of recs have moved on to better bigger things, as indicated by her site being down.
So I come to you, fellow memers. I fancy OC of the m/m persuasion, and kind of love power-play or instances of slave/reluctant-master (as in reluctant b/c it's the state of society and they have to teach the slave their place), with a soft-spot for sci-fi/space AUs. Bonus if the slave has some background and figures out a way to either escape or come to terms with his situation/love/what-have-you.
But really at this point, any lengthy orifinal fic will make me very grateful.

Have you read The Administration by Manna Francis? http://www.mannazone.org/zone/index.html
That seems kind of up your alley.
That seems kind of up your alley.
There is a father/daughter contestant couple named Jay and Jen and every time someone says their names or they write them on a screen I feel like someone made up the characters as a shout-out, even though they are real people, not characters.
Aw <3 Now you're making me want to watch that show ^^
I'm getting major weirdness from my LJ inbox. For the last couple of days, the number of messages it claimed to have has stayed the same, even though new messages kept coming in, and now it's started counting backwards, even though I haven't deleted anything. WTF?
Probably just LJ being its wonky unstable self. Nothing much you can do except report it on LJ-support, but chances are they are aware of it and are working on making things worse fixing it...
So I must have gotten spoiled by the SPN fandom because I am extremely disappoint that I can't find a gif of Ross (from Friends) making his trademark FU gesture.
You know the one he makes at the end of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7YpRLpstjE
Oh, to be more photoshop-gifted. I would gif the hell out of that scene and insert it everywhere....
/nostalgic anon is nostalgic.

New community. A kink meme for every fandom that never was. Saw a movie? Want fic? No fandom exists!?!?!? Then stop on by and leave a prompt. With any hope someone will see your prompt, remember said movie (or book/show/anime/whatever) and fill your prompt. So come on over, we'd love to have you!
I love you so hard for bringing this here.
Soooo...Give me some reasons why life is worth living, anons. Even if it's just some silly thing that makes you happy. I'm all out of juice for life today and thinking some pretty dark thoughts. Sure I'm not the only one on here who could use some cheering up at the moment.
Aww, I'm sorry, nonnie. :( Want an internet!hug?
Some random things I like:
The feeling of fresh linen when you're going to sleep
Reading an excellent book for the first time, or an old favorite book for the tenth
The warmth of sunshine on my skin
Making snow angels
Painting my nails in some fancy color
Watching Ghostbusters again and reciting the dialog during the roof top scene
Checking what ingredients I have at home and then googling to see what recipes I can find. And then cooking it.
Writing a letter to myself, dating it five years into the future, and then hiding it in a drawer somewhere
Buying a new pair of shoes
Listening to music. Trying to discover new music, by listening to the radio or trying out last.fm's suggestion.
Doodling flowers and stars on a piece of paper
Baking cookies, then giving in half way through and eating some of the cookie dough
Those things cheer me up, usually. And talking to people! Talking to people works the wonders.

Who else saw this video and thought this should be the go-to song for folks in this fandom that really seem to be at their wits' end?

ZOMG. Eureka, where have you been all my life? Currently enjoying the hell out of season one. What other shows does everyone else love? Anyone discover anything new recently?
Misfits. Misfits Misfits Misfits.
Sorry. I'm enthusiastic.

Goodbye for today, anyway, because I've just found the most delicious wankfest and I'll need all day to catch up to it:

Isn't that an old rant? http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_discussion/1834488.html
Sometimes I wish people would write fanfic based on little-known OCs or really well-known original fic. I just re-read Northen Corporate Dominion (http://remyheart.livejournal.com/tag/ncd) and even after all these years I wish someone had written a Jens-centric coda. Even if it's to say that he died right after being sold, or something that gives him closure about Lukas.
/wishful nonnie is wishful
-original fic nonnie above.

I'm going to go read that now, nonnie. Thanks for the rec!
Is anyone else watching? My love for this show is strong, I want mooooore!
I'm watching. I don't like it very much, though. Hoping it'll get better after a couple of episodes.
Did you watch it last night?
What the hell was that? :S
Also, I think I ship Foreman/Taub, but my OTP is House/Wilson :)

Any UK nonnies on here know how to get your hands on Ritalin/Adderall/Modafil? I really need some to help me pass my exams. :(
Why do I work with such stupid babies? Why? Just now someone literally walked right by the mailboxes (of which there are a grand total of 21, names easily browsed) without looking at them to ask me if a specific employee had a box. USE YOUR EYES AND LOOK YOUR OWN SELF.
