I'm watching the UK Being Human, and I'm really enjoying it so far. However, I've read spoilers for the remainder of the series (I'm up to the third ep of Season 2), and I'm not sure how I feel about where the series is heading. Is it all worth watching? If no, is there a good stopping point?

Jim Beaver's comment:
"I've been an actor for nearly 40 years. Couldn't get arrested for the first 17, then the tumblers fell accidentally into place and I've worked ever since. Every pilot I've ever done save one was picked up. I've had about 7 series and 40-something movies. I've never been fired (though my role has on occasion been cut in rewrites). I'm the luckiest actor ever born, I think, because no matter how prepared, how ready, how congenial, how talented I might be, there are a thousand other actors as much or more talented, ready, congenial, and prepared, and there's little reason it should be me rather than them who gets the job. All of this is to say that this piece by Ken Levine is absolutely, utterly, and undeniably accurate about the lottery-within-a-lottery-within-a-lottery that is an acting career in film and TV. My late wife Cecily Adams was both an actor and a casting director (she only hired me twice in 20 years, by the way!), and through her I saw so much of the reality of the casting process. Though I remind my fellow actors that the casting people have you there because they WANT you to be the one who succeeds--no one gets past a pre-read without a casting person wanting them to do well--it is a deadly business, and the higher up the food chain in television, the more likely the person is to contribute to that deadliness. Network execs who choose hotties over the next Lucille Ball for a sitcom despite the latter's talent, saying "Leave talent out of the equation"--true story. The dreaded "NPE" next to your name (Not Pretty Enough). Losing parts because you have a mustache (happened to me several times, despite the fact that I own a razor). Losing parts because you look like the development exec's ex-husband. The only way to win at this game is to be prepared, be ready, be talented, be congenial, be lucky, and never, ever believe you could ever do anything else. If you can't guarantee those things, you're in the wrong game. If you can guarantee those things, the odds are still a zillion to one. But you'll have nearly a zillion colleagues to commiserate with, and you might--MIGHT--be the one. Someone will be."

This only belongs in the actor gossip post.
There are days when I feel so ugly. And the problem is, I am ugly so it's a problem of acceptance and dealing with it. I'm ok with it about 80% of the time. So not always. Anyway. How do you see yourselves, nonnies? Do you have healthy body images? (meh, this is probably a stupid topic to talk about)
I think when I was younger I thought I was ugly. TBH even though I'm still young I have a hard time remembering much from my younger years. RN I know I'm pretty though I don't invest much in my appearance so it's possible some people think I'm a butterface. I def have a hot body though, and if I bothered to wear make up/do my hair no one could say I'm ugly. My body image is fine, I guess, though I don't like how thin and bony my arms are. Generally I wish I was more muscular and I'd like to take steps towards that.

Guys here is a song I used to love a lot (tw for reference to abortion):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fR7TJO11QM
It's Shasta (Carrie's Song) by Vienna Teng, whom I adore. But the more I listen the more uncomfortable it makes me. I think it's the Christian lady reference and the 'ghosts with a negative age' business. I don't enjoy being all weirded out by this, it's a lovely song otherwise. Thoughts?

IDGI. First of all, what is a "ghost with a negative age", and why don't you like it? Also could you explain what is it about the reference to the Christian lady that made you uncomfortable? Although, TBH... I just didn't get the song in general. Some lady is driving and I guess she's going to get an abortion, and then.... IDK. The last few parts of the song are confusing and I don't know WTF is going on. Sorry I don't have anything smart to say about it :(

I love(d) milk, nonnies.
Drank the stuff like I breathed air, I did.
But then I suddenly stopped. Started drinking soy and almond milk and other healthy alternative stuff. Then I just used them only for things that needed milk, like cereal and recipes. Just about went cold turkey.
BUT SUDDENLY.
I decided to use old school 2% fat milk for my cereal. I took a sip before the por to make sure it was fresh, but then it's delicious flavored beckoned to me like a long lost lover.
I drank the whole cup in a fit of mental ecstasy. Had to get another for the cereal.
It's about an hour later and my tummy might not be feeling too good. I think I'm lactose-intolerant now. :'(
Oh milk, why did I stray. Why must my body turn against me.

I lost 18 games of Spider Solitaire in a row yesterday.
This worked out pretty well for me last year: Nonnies, who is going to win the National College Basketball finals?
UK (University of Kentucky) all the way, baby! They're 32-2 for the season, and I'm really hoping they'll take it home. Of course, they could choke, but I doubt it.
A witness in the murder of a homeless man tells Britten and his rookie partner, Vega that a "small guy" was spotted at the scene of the crime. When that clue crosses over into the case Britten is working on in his other reality, Bird is confused by his partner's sudden interest in the height of the suspects they are investigating. Meanwhile, Britten's captain (Laura Innes) shows growing concern over his behavior.
I liked this ep, but I was kind of disappointed that in both realities we got scenes of people talking without Michael around. It destroyed some of the mystery for me.

Hey, nonnie! Sorry, I meant to make this thread like three days ago, but I'm having a really hectic week.
I don't mind the scenes without Britten, but I do have a lot of misgivings about the conspiracy business. I mean, I guess that does partially answer the question of how they're going to make this premise last; I'm just a bit skeptical of shows that make a big deal of having some kind of mysterious moving and shaking going on behind the scenes that they aren't going to tell you about yet. ... okay, that is a ridiculous statement, because I primarily watch genre TV and every genre show does that. But right now this feels kind of Abrams-y and it makes me suspicious.
I was sad to see the beautiful, beautiful opening sequence from the pilot not survive it into the show itself. I like the world transitions; they are heavy-handed, but so nice to look at that I don't really care.
My favorite thing is the therapists and the way they argue with each other and explicitly deconstruct the show. I enjoy how little fucking-around Awake does. I was expecting to have to sit through at least five minutes of establishing material about Britten and his family and how much he loves them and how devastating the loss was going to be before the car accident; instead it's like the first shot. Episode two rolls around and it's already attacking its own premise. I still wonder about its sustainability, but I'm really enjoying the ride.

which one is the best case scenario?
Best Case Scenario in what way?
So who's excited for the movie? I've only read the first book, and I liked it quite a bit - not in the fandom or anything. Thoughts?
I am! They seem to have people who can act, so I take that as a positive.
Any anons who've pursued nursing. Worth it? Right now I'm just treading water, shitty part-time job and no college. No plans.
any of you nonnies watch Nikita? I like it so much! They're so good at plot, it's my SPN antidote in that respect.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/penn-jillette/celebrity-apprentice-blue-man-group_b_1395411.html - I can't really see the beauty and joy that's mentioned here, in people scurrying to grab stray money. I couldn't see it when The Who broke their instruments either, so maybe that was a sign I wouldn't much agree with the rest of the article.
Do you have opinions on this, nonnies? The article certainly made me think (and I had to go listen to "My generation" before leaving this morning).
Do you have opinions on this, nonnies? The article certainly made me think (and I had to go listen to "My generation" before leaving this morning).
Huh?? Maybe I'm stupid, but that article and this post are all kinds of a mess. I don't understand any of it. I mean, I got the first part, when she was complaining about The Who destroying instruments and then realized it was "art" or whatever. Then there's something about a Blue Man thing that IDEK, and then The Apprentice, and.. Clay Aiken? I don't watch that show, so maybe that's why I'm confused. Also I think I missed the stray money thing. There was also something about children being disgusted with money being wasted on homeless people. Whut. I don't think these hypothetical children give a fuck one way or another, or even understand what it means to be spending or wasting money. Anyway, IDG where you're going with this, or where the article writer was going. Peace.
Normally I'm much better at this, but I'm having a hell of a time finding fic for this show. Rather, I've checked ao3 and ff.net, but I'm really looking for a reccing community, or a place with good codas. Any ideas?
You might've already read all these, I might have horrible taste, but this is for you, nonnie!

How do you tell people you're feeling suicidal without freaking them out?
I think their reaction is not going to be dependent on anything you do or say. That's one of those things that's out of your hands. It'll probably help, though, if you already have sought help and you can tell them what your plan is for keeping yourself safe.
A long time ago I was searching for and downloading lesbian kissing vids on youtube (hush, I hadn't figured out other sources yet then) and I developed a massive girlboner for a redheaded porn star but for SO LONG I couldn't find who she was no matter what search strings I used.

Any fans of the show Spartacus? I'm totally in love with the couple Nasir and Agron. I started watching the show after seeing pics of them sneaking looks at the other. Being a boytouching fan from way back, I was instantly intrigued.
[A little back story for people who don't know the show: Agron is a gladiator who is part of Spartacus' band of escaped warriors. Their mission is to free as many slaves as possible, to build a big enough army to battle the Roman masters and gain freedom for all. During a raid of a rich Romans home, Spartacus kills the dominus (homeowner) and frees the slaves there. Nasir is one of the slaves, who joins Spartacus' group. Agron at first doesn't trust Nasir, but as time passes, we see that he is always watching Nasir....]
Then there was that unexpected first kiss from Agron to Nasir. It was so sweet and tender - nothing like you'd expect from a battle hardened warrior/gladiator. They've moved from sweet to hot - one episode had them making out against a wall, with lip biting/sucking and crotch fondling. It was all my dreams come true.
I really like the actor who plays Agron - he's really tall, has nice eyes and dimples (remind you of anyone?) The guy who plays Nasir is very exotic. I read the book "The Persian Boy" years ago - he is what I pictured Bagoas looking like. Together, they're unbelievably hot.

I've heard of them, and seen the gifs and pics. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to finish watching the first season and I didn't even start the prequel, so IDEK when I'm gonna get to that season. I look forward to it tho.
Help me, nonnies! You're my only hope!
Since the downfall of MU and other helpful sitesfor people like me who don't own a TV, I'm having trouble getting a dl for GoT eps. The main GoT comm on LJ doesn't allow link posting, and I had a link to one blog that posted them weekly, but when I checked on Monday it said it would "no longer be updated". :(
Long story short: anyone have a safe, virus-free, non-Torrent link to dl the latest GoT episode(s)? I have up to 2.4, I think if Sunday was 2.5.
Thanks, nonnies. Although the show's depressing as hell, I really want to see what happens to Arya. And the dragons. Oh, and the Wall. <3

Torrenting is the way I've been getting the eps.
Monday's episode gave me all the House/Wilson feels I've been wanting for the last two seasons.
Well? Details! I stopped watching after S4, but I could always spare a little time for the House/Wilson feels.
I got some awesome suggestions for my Chicago trip here, so I'm back again, for San Francisco this time. My vacation's at the end of the month; five days in Vegas and five days in San Francisco. Vegas is a family trip, so I'm not worried about planning (they'll plan for me, I'm sure), but San Francisco's all me.
I've been there before, but I'm still trying to whittle down the gazillion things I want to do on this trip. So far I have: tour of Alcatraz, Muir Woods, de Young Museum, California Academy of Sciences, Chinatown, and two days in Napa. That's a whole lot of things (for me, a pretty lazy traveler). Any favorites? Anything not on the list I absolutely should see? Anything I can skip?

Cable cars are fun, but taking them to popular destinations can get kind of crowded. If you're visiting Alcatraz, BOOK EARLY. You can do it online.
Good choice on Muir Woods. On your way back if you like you can visit Sausalito, which is a quaint bohemian shopping area. Once you come back across the bridge up north around there if you like Science!™ the Exploratorium (http://www.exploratorium.edu/) is awesome. It's geared at getting kids and adults excited about everything from tornados to perspective illusions.
Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39/Ghirardelli Square is probably one of the most touristy, well-known places; it's very popular, but aside from the giant chocolate store I don't know if I care for it much. If you're more interested in a more low-key shopping with boba or floating sushi boats I recommend the Japantown indoor mall on Geary Blvd. which has restaurants and shops and a grocery store and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's sneaky though, because it's underground: you can identify it through the big courtyard with doors on either side of it.
California Academy of Sciences is rad, and the de Young also has a number of awesome exhibits. If you want more museums I love SF's Museum of Modern Art enough, especially since it's just about a spit away from Market Street, possibly one of the most active downtown areas in the city and a stone's throw from Union Square which has some of the best upscale retail stores, cafes and theaters. Seriously, the bathroom in the Macy's there is made of marbleand is kind of worth it just for that.
Hope this gives you some more ideas! Though it uh, probably doesn't help whittling down the things you want to do. Have a good trip, nonnie!

Yes, my grades sucks. I realize that is completely unacceptable to you, the pinnacle of success. Yes, I will take in mind that less sleep and eating is your advice for success.
And thank you for telling how masculine my haircut makes me look and how much you don't like it and how much better I would look if I just shaved it all off. That is really awesome and encouraging of you. Just me know when I can comment on that printed shirts next time.
I just needed a place to vent, meme.

I'm sorry :(

I got online to find out how many eps are left and discovered that that was it for the season. Seven eps seems a little short, even for a mid-season replacement. Then I saw that next season is only going to be 13 eps or less? Anyone in Scandal fandom know what's going on? That just seems really short and bizarre. I've never heard of a network show in the U.S. having 20 or fewer eps after two seasons.
Going by Twitter, Shonda Rhimes seems happy that it only has 13 episodes. It's probably easier on her where she's also dealing with Grey's and Private Practice
Nonnies, could you rec me a few crossover Avengers/Spiderman fics? If you've come across any. Thank you!
You can probably find a lot if you look for comicbook fic since Peter was/is in the Avengers.
