Lovely graphics, nonnie!

What I'm getting from this is that J2 OTP'ers are okay with Danneel, Misha, and JDM, but non-J2 people like Gen in their Mishalecki.

I thought the J2 one was really interesting because it had a much more narrow scope than the other, so JDM and Danneel really stood out as common characters they enjoyed. It would be interesting if meme were big enough to have enough Jared/Misha OTPers or Gen/Misha etc, for their own individual word clouds, what the 'second level' pairings would be in those.

Also interesting: Jared/Jensen and Jared/Misha had equal number of people saying they shipped it and equal number of threesome ships with the pairings, but Jared/Misha tended to be a second or third ship, not a favorite. And if Jared/Jensen wasn't an OTP it didn't tend to show up.

I was pleased to see how big of a showing Gen had in the main graphic. It seems like I've been seeing her pop up more and more, and I like the character that she's evolving into in fandom.

All the m/m/f threesome fic I find with J2, it usually is with Danneel.

That's the threesome I prefer. I like Gen fine, and include her as a peripheral in most of my fic, but I don't find her interesting sexually so I don't really write her in the pairing. Same thing with Misha

I like Danneel just fine and enjoy Jensen/Danneel, etc., but I actually have zero Danneel feels. I don't understand how this works, because I've read some awesome Danneels that I really adored, and that's what it took for me to love fictional!Gen.

Feels are weird things.

personal preferences are just weird like that lol! I think fanon versions of ALL of them can be played with and are fun, so ultimately I think it just narrows down to the fact that I find Danneel smoking hot

I'm the same way! She tends to be great in fic, and I've even written some Jensen/Danneel, but she is not the character of my heart. I *think* it might be because she's not SPN? Although I watched Ten Inch Hero with her and Jensen, and that didn't move me to feels, either. (At least now I have a better sense of what she looks/sounds like.) As someone else said, possibly it's just that I find her less exciting physically?

I do like her as Gen's BFF, though. That, I am all for.

And what pretty word clouds they are! As you say, I don't think that's really representative of the fandom at large, alas. Like, if you did a word cloud of the spn_j2_xmas signups, they wouldn't look anything like this.

I wonder how meme happens to have so much broader a range of ship interests.

Speaking for myself, I don't tend to read/write RPF that much. I usually have to be really drawn in by the story idea - incubus!Misha and socially-awkward!Jensen, for example. Most of my playing around with shippiness is actually on meme. I put down Gen/Misha, for example, even though I've never read or written a fic - I just really enjoy the pairing as a concept, and love hearing about it when people squee on meme.

I think and don't really have much proof, but I still think it, that there's some overlap between people who aren't too involved with RPF and people who like RPF rarepairs. Jared/Jensen is what a large chunk of RPF is about - and if you look at the word cloud, I feel like a lot of those ships are ones that there's substantial fanwork about. Whereas the rarepair cloud doesn't have much Jared/Jensen and has many pairings that I've never seen fanwork for.

Maybe.

I like this theory. I think it's also a function of meme in general spending a lot of time thinking of interesting ways to combine minor characters. So you have people who don't have entrenched views about RPF in a kind of free-for-all minor character multishippy environment, and all kinds of combinations happen, and some of them stick and develop momentum and get commentfic and MSPaint, etc.

I feel that this would be an excellent opportunity for meme to rec, like, all the Misha/Gen ever. So, fics with Misha/Gen as the main pairing, plus fics where they're a significant side pairing. (Define "significant" as you like.)

I doubt this exercise will take very long, but I would love to be surprised. :D

Not especially helpful I know, but I have almost 2K in my WiP folder for that Gen/Misha story where he's head of the PTA and she's head of the elementary school. Delicious crack!

I need to write more Misha/Gen. I have two unposted WIPs, but they are going sloooow. I mostly started writing them because they were my two favorite RPF characters, but then I developed mad shippy feels and now they are my OTP. ;P

Yesterday, people responded to the Science thread. They put down their OTPs and then the other ships they liked. The first image here is a list of all the ships that everyone said they liked. Larger pairings on there means more people wrote them down. Tinier pairings means only one or two people wrote them down.

The second image is taken from only people who said Jared/Jensen was their OTP. It's a list of all the ships that Jared/Jensen OTPers like.

The third image is taken from people who said anything other than Jared/Jensen was their OTP. It's a list of all the ships that these nonnies like.

Again: the smaller the writing, the fewer people said they like that ship. The bigger the writing, the larger the number of people said they like that ship.
