Why would show need him if he has no story and Benny and Cas are there to prop up Dean's story? There are cheaper decorations they can use.

Of course he has a story. The mytharc this season is about finding the tablet and going against Crowley. Both Sam and Dean are involved. And Benny and Cas are not there to prop Dean's story. We don't really know about Benny, but Cas' storyline involves both brothers. And both Misha and Jared have said that he will have more interaction with Sam.

Well it's Dean's story obviously since Sam doesn't even want to be there to begin with and it's Dean who has the tie to Cas nd benny who obviously will be a grand part of that arc. And to tell the truth, it sounds very impersonal except to Kevin so it'll probably be Kevin's story and not the brothers'.

It doesn't matter if Sam wants to be there or not. He is still part of the story. The fact that he doesn't want to be there is part of the story. And Dean isn't the only with a tie to Cas. Cas will interact with both of the brothers.

I have to disagree with you. I'll be really surprised if Sam/Cas get more than one or two scene together without Dean in the WHOLE season (and I'm sure they will talk about Dean and if possible have Cas stress how much closer he is to Dean not to upset certain fans who are already complaining about this spoiler). And the writers would never let Cas interact with Sam as much as with Dean (best case "Pollyanna" scenario is 5:1 on Dean/Cas to Sam/Cas scenes), and after 8.10 he'll probably interact with Naomi more than with Sam.

And It doesn't matter if Sam wants to be there or not. He is still part of the story.
Going by Jared's shooting schedule this "Sam story line" has to be playing out off screen then since even Benny is getting more character focus and actual screen time than Sam (and more big scenes with Dean). And now in the second half Cas seems to be taking over for Benny.

You are just making baseless assumptions. And it's funny how when Sam is not mentioned in the spoilers, it's proof that that he has no story, but when there is a spoiler about him, it's just dismissed.

We have no idea how much screentime Same will get later in the season. What we do know is that Sam is one of the two leads. It doesn't matter if Benny, Cas, Kevin or Puff the magic dragon get a focus episode. In the overall season the focus will be on Sam and Dean.

Umm, no. People said it will be Dean-focused cause that's what Jensen said at one con (and that the Amelia park thing will only be a really short flashback). No one said it will be Sam-lite or that Jared had time off during filming - which he didn't.
I think you mean Edlund's 8.05 - that one had Jared free time in Austin, and is suppose to be Sam-light (but we haven't seen it yet). 8.09 (the Benny one) had also lots of Jared Austin sightings during the week, and now 8.10 this week.

Whatever Jensen said probably made sense in context and doesn't excuse the fan-spin before the ep aired about how it was going to be all about Dean and Sam was going to hardly be in it and he would have no lines etc. etc. etc.

It wasn't a Dean-focused ep.

I don't think anyone said Jared's filming schedule was light for 8.3. The filming spoilers have been 8.4, light on both brothers, 8.5, 8.9. and 8.10, all having substantial time off for Jared. And filming schedules have been pretty reliable indicators in the past. One bibro-lite and three Sam-lite eps in the first ten really is a bit much, even if Sam has really intense stuff in the eps in question. Especially when they are doing an emotional rather than plotty storyline, there's a real limit to how much they can do without just plain screentime.

So I really, really hope they have some Sam-heavy eps planned for the second half of the season.

8.11 a.k.a. the LARPing episode is also suppose to be Winchester-lite. And still not even a tinny hint of a hope for a Sam-heavy episode at all, even though they get scripts in advance, so nothing till at least 8.13/8.14 if they are filming 8.10.

But those weren't similar ~facts~ at all. The only "spoiler" about 8.3 was that Jensen said it was heavier on Dean scenes than the last two he directed. People inferred from there.

That's very different from the fact that in, for example, 8.5, Jared only shot for two days out of eight

That's actually not a fact (or link?), but even if it's true: there could be scheduling reasons for that that have zero effect on how much Sam is in the ep. So, no, it's not categorically different. The spoilers about 8.3 were true; they just didn't have the result that people were claiming they would.

I've been spoiler free until the last two weeks, but this news of Jared being off so much is really getting me down. Jared not being on set is a pretty clear indicator of how much Sam we will get. Which is apparently not much. In light of that I can't really come up with any compelling reasons to watch the rest of this season. Which sucks.

I've already expressed my hope that someone will make a vid of stitched-together Sam scenes this season so I can get the few minutes of each show that I actually enjoy without putting up with the rest.

I just want to repeat that and add that I'm serious. I would love this. I haven't watched the last two episodes and probably won't watch tonight's unless meme is full of squeeing Samgirls tomorrow. But I do miss Sam.

Sorry, but Misha saying he actually has a scene with Jared is not exactly a prove that Cas will suddenly intact with Sam as much as Dean or even comparatively as much - see past 4 season to see a pattern. And it most certainty is no indication than Sam will have a story. If anything it sounds like Sam will further Cas story for 8.07/8.08 while Dean is busy with Benny.

Talk about baseless assumptions or is that desperate hope? Sam always gets side lined in the second half of seasons - it's nearly a tradition - cause they run out of time and have wrap the Big Bad climax and season arc stuff. And if you believe Edlund and see recent Cas spoilers the second half will be about manipulated!Cas and the angel brigade - which by association and past seasons means more emotional Dean & Dean/Cas scenes and less Sam screen time.

In the overall season the focus will be on Sam and Dean.
I doubt it. The last 2 season have not focused on Sam and Dean. And Carver seems to not give a damn about Sam/Dean or Sam for that matter, but is in love with new and old side characters and their connection to Dean + Winchester light episodes. I'd love to be surprised but...

Misah didn't say "he actually has a scene with Jared."

As Castiel gets back into the groove, we'll see something that isn't always typical for Supernatural: Castiel spending some time with Sam. Now that Cas is out of Purgatory, Misha said that the show has just begun "playing out any dynamic between Sam and Cas" but then went on to jokingly bemoan that he hoped this would stop because "that means I’m working with Jared more."

And I don't need any indication that there will be a story for Sam. There is no need for speculation. We know there is a story for Sam because we've seen the three first episode, in which he is most definitely in the story. And more importantly the whole show is about Sam and Dean. Sam has a story by definition.

Saying we don't know how much screentime Sam will have is not an assumption. It's a statment of fact. We actually don't know how much screentime Sam will have. Unless you have a time machine.

This discussion is pointless. You are so set in your view, you are certain you can predict the future. I don't know how the season will play out. What I do know is that the episodes so far do not support the "Sam does not have a story" theory. As for the rest of the episodes, I'll wait until I see them before I formulate an opinion.

All Sam fans I know have pretty much given up on the show. I'm bibro and love both brothers so much, but even I have decided to stop watching. I can't enjoy Dean's story when Sam's is being so neglected.

It's very sad and almost unbelievable was sad pile of crap this show has turned into. I will never forgive Carver for doing this, just because he is apparently easily confused.
