Re: Any love for the brothers left on here?

I love Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean are my favorite characters and I adore their bond. But S7 was so uninspired and dull, especially on the Sam and Dean front - I don't have a problem with people complaining about it. It's not that we're saying "Sam and Dean are boring because their relationship is innately boring", we're saying "Sam and Dean's relationship right now is boring and we wish it were more interesting."

I want more Sam and Dean bonding. I want the chemistry and charisma we had earlier on. But S7 gave us a truly lousy Sam and Dean connection, one that I couldn't get worked up over and found no interest in. I wanted to find interest in it. It's what I watch the show for! So I'm extra annoyed and pessimistic right now because that's what I want and I'm really frustrated by people telling me that I must not love Sam and Dean because I'm not satisfied with how they're being portrayed (both as individuals and together) in canon right now.

I don't like how season 7 portrayed it either, but it is the writing that is the problem not Sam and Dean's relationship. I'm frustrated by people telling me that I must be a moron or troll for still loving Sam and Dean and wanting them together.

I think it's both the writing and their relationship. The writers seem to portray Sam and Dean as a parent-child relationship instead of an actual brother relationship. It kind of bothers me.

I don't see that at all. Maybe in the first seasons, but not since Dean went to hell. Sorry, nonnie.

I see it. Glimpses of it. It's still there. They've been stuck in these roles forever. I doubt that they'll ever break free...which is unfortunate for them.

I don't, also I don't want them to break free of each other. I love that about them.

Huh. I agree that I don't see that role for them anymore but S4 felt to be the most heavily parent/child-ified season for them in the entire series for me. Sam cast Dean as the John-like paternal figure to rebel against and Dean kept trying to protect Sam, even if he fucked up in doing so. It even ended in a reiteration of the Stanford argument!

S5 and after though, yeah, not feeling it there anymore.

But the writing informs how Sam and Dean's relationship is portrayed. A problem with one is a problem with the other. No one is saying you're a moron or a troll for loving them both and wanting them together, but finding them unsatisfying right now is an equally valid response.

Hell, I want them together AND I think they've been written poorly and in an unsatisfying manner all last season!

I really don't see it like that. I see it as weak writing, and the flaw in the show in found there and can only be fixed there too.

Yeah, this. I don't think I could ever hate Sam and Dean, but I hate the writers for seemingly having no idea what to do with the characters or the show in general anymore. >_>

Stuff like Hello Cruel World and Plucky Pennwhistle's and other small moments showed me the dynamics I love are still there, the writers just aren't doing anything with it and bogging everything down with nihilistic crap that goes nowhere. (It's so much easier for me to feel happy and sad and anything over the earlier seasons than it has been for the current ones lately, even though I usually prefer playing in current canon.)
