Ugh. "Wasn't seen as a threat to the boys' relationship"? It's like they think the entire fanbase are cranky five year olds. Unfortunately, they're not wrong with the maturity level of a lot of fans, but that doesn't mean they should be pandered to.

Also, Garth. :/

+1 Garth is rapidly becoming my new Becky. I get why he could be an interesting character when fans of his talk about him, but I don't feel like the writing ever bears it out. Garth doesn't even have the advantage for me of being a woman. Plus, I wonder why "they" like Garth, which Singer seemed to think was an enticement for the audience. Does he really have much of a fanbase?

I think Garth is popular with casual viewers and very unpopular with the majority of the hardcore fanbase, but then casual viewers seem to take a lot of it less seriously than the hardcore fanbase. I'm watching the series with my finace who hasn't seen most of it. We're in S4 now, but we've watched some S7 eps too, including Party On Garth. My finace thought Garth was hilarious. I think it's because he breaks up the heavy atmosphere and what I personally cringe at, someone who only watches casually or only on a surface level might welcome.

Garth and Becky both are characters that make me very uncomfortable. Chuck too, for that matter, though for more reasons than just the awkward social interactions thing. They all give me serious second hand embarrassment squick.

I can see why Singer would want to include anything that keeps the ratings up but I'm lost as to why he'd toss cringeworthy characters like Garth in instead of fixing the root problem that's driving viewers away.

Agree. I'm ok with Chuck but becky and garth are annoying.
Becky makes me so mad, and I hate how some women get away with being molesters just because they're women and we must think they're funny.

I felt with Garth from the beginning like he was being presented as "Look, fans, here is your new fan favorite!" and he's really not -- among fans, at least, he's the least popular of the new characters introduced in s7. Charlie, though I liked her, also had a bit that feeling of a character who was introduced with an "OMG, guys, you're going to love her!" The fact that she worked for me may have been an acting thing, but it may also have been that she contributed a genuine, specific, essential skill for the plot. She felt like she was playing a real function and existed in her own right, rather than being a wacky foil for Sam and Dean.

Yeah, I mean, I'm willing to believe that there is a difference between casual viewers and online fans when it comes to Garth, but 90 percent of why he gets under my skin is that feeling that he's the SPN version of Homer Simpson's Poochie.

Really? This is a thing? *face-palm*

well, that's the "silent majority" for you, the loudest, batshit craziest wheel gets the oil.

Nah, I think that title belongs to the D/C and Castiel crowd.

There's nothing as loud as the Destiel crew.

Hate on female characters in this show is as old as Jo. Or more. Nothing to do with recent campaigns..

I'd say the zombie majority ranks pretty high up there, tbh.

"silent majority" is loud and way more hateful.

then how come every single article about Sam's new love interest was full of comments from D/C thrilled that Sam would be distracted and Dean would have time to go ~reconnect with Cas?

Or how J2's idiot bodyguard made a blog and was suddenly inundated with Casfen, to the point that they were organizing on twitter and tumblr, and then freaking out when he didn't approve their comments fast enough?

It's all agenda-driven. I think the whole thing is stupid, but technically the Silent Majority campaign is doing the same thing, but they couch it in "wanting the brothers together" instead of coming out and saying "we hate Cas!" (they don't say it outright, even if they think it). Same way the Cas-fen pretend they give a shit about Sam's new love interest when they are really just gleeful that Dean might be off with Cas instead.

...wait until both sides hear about Benny lol.

Re: Extended TV Guide spoilers

That's odd: in most articles, I read plenty more comments of extreme anti-cas penchant. Being glad for a new character, even if it is for the silly reasons you point (personally, I've never read anything of that sort, but if you say it's out there, ok), sounds much less negative than constant demands for a character's head on a platter.

And the bodyguard blog thing was cringe-worthy all around: from posters pointing fingers at Cliff, to posters sucking up to Cliff. The kind of discussions that were there is NOT something I'm comfortable reading outside of the fandom realm. The secondhand embarrassing hurt.

Knock it off. Ableism isn't cool no matter who you anti-ship.

Well, I don't know about batshitiest, but it looks like they got themselves heard, alright.

Perhaps the writers will come up with a new rule, where angels can only enter a room with express permission, a la True Blood vampires. I mean, you don't want Cas to pop up and, erm, interrupt something brotherly or stuff.

(and yes: i know that as far as they're concerned, Castiel should have been blasted off of the face of the Earth, so it does not disrupt the tender brotherly relationsheep.)

Fucking hell, the last few pages of meme are really terrible.

I think it's time I saw other memes, meme. Maybe I should watch some Teen Wolf?

Re: Extended TV Guide spoilers

I have commented once before on how terrible the last few pages of meme are, but that was the time when it was all full of stupid ship wankers going at it hammer and tongs, and then it seemed to pick up again. Usually I feel like there are interesting people interspersed with the stupid wankiness, but today it's all gossers vs trolls, with a couple of comments that seem like they might come from interesting people but are about Cockles so they make my eyes glaze over anyway.

And I have never, ever before threatened to watch Teen Wolf.

Things are bad.

Also that nonnie who just says "Hello." creeps me out. I think they're like, trapped in meme or something, and that's the only word they can say. But inside the Internet, they're screaming.

You should start a Whedon meme. I would participate. I just don't want to mod. But I'd like one-stop shopping place to talk about all his works.
