Maruchan, the most staple (in my experience) for college kids, doesn't come with packets but with its seasonings, broth powder stuff and carrot bits already mixed in.

ugh, and I bet their talking about Top Ramen (more like BOTTOM OF MY DRAWER RAMEN), Maruchan's sick cousin.

Carrots? I don't think you're talking about Ramen, which does have seasoning packets.

I think you may be thinking of the Instant Lunch, which is a whole different thing.

Also, I've never seen a grocery store that only sold one brand of ramen noodles. Maybe I just live in a super special place, but I think college students just usually go with whatever's cheapest that week.

Then are you claiming that all ramen brands have noodles free of animal product?

I'm claiming that Misha can still eat what people typically think of as ramen without consuming animal product.

But will it digest?

the anon writing the story

Yeah, noodles are mostly starch. He can eat them. Actually, he probably likes them best dry, right out of the package.

From the site:

Maruchan Instant Lunch is a delicious ramen noodle soup...

So not that different.

Well, different when we're talking about what college students buy in bulk that's cheap. Because those aren't cheap at all.

Seems cheap in bulk to me.

I have to admit, I've never priced food on amazon.com before. It does look pretty cheap, but note that it's 41 cents a package. Whereas package Ramen (at least in the grocery stores around here) is 25 cents a package for the most expensive, not on sale, types, and if you wait for a sale you can usually pick it up for 10 cents a package.

Right, but you don't get the convenience of being able to eat it where you bought it (having the container), assuming you have access to it in usual non-grocery college student haunts (assuming provided access to hot water). You have to take it back to your room and prepare it.

and you can take it places without cleanup, omg yeesss.

I am talking about Instant Lunch, which is colloquially referred to as Instant Ramen and is often more accessible for college students than the packaged ramen. The former only requires boiling water (which you can often get in convenience stores or cafes that serve tea) or a microwave, while the latter requires a bowl and then doing dishes/some kind of cooking and disposal system.

Honestly, I never saw anyone make Maruchan's Ramen (though my convenience store sold it); it was exclusively Instant Lunch ramen.

Regional differences, yadda, yadda, yadda. I've never heard of anyone calling that ramen. Where I live it's colloquially called cup soup. But our dorms have kitchens on every floor and sinks in every room.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's all noodles to me. cup noodles, noodles pack, noodles in general.

And why does every room have a sink?

Re: PSA: spn_hardcore_bb

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Running water? Why wouldn't you have a sink in your dorm room? I'm assuming you don't, from what you said, but that sounds awfully inconvenient.

Re: PSA: spn_hardcore_bb

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Because there's a community kitchen, and bathroom? Again, why? Why just a sink?

Re: PSA: spn_hardcore_bb

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
da

We didn't have a community kitchen, and you don't always want to go down the hall to the bathroom just to brush your teeth or fill up your coffee maker. The sink was pretty handy.

DA

This might be a regional thing. I never had a sink in a US dorm room (we had to go to the bathroom to get water), but the British dorms I've seen have had sinks in the room. I did prefer that, obsessive tea maker that I am.
