Running water? Why wouldn't you have a sink in your dorm room? I'm assuming you don't, from what you said, but that sounds awfully inconvenient.

Because there's a community kitchen, and bathroom? Again, why? Why just a sink?

We didn't have a community kitchen, and you don't always want to go down the hall to the bathroom just to brush your teeth or fill up your coffee maker. The sink was pretty handy.

This might be a regional thing. I never had a sink in a US dorm room (we had to go to the bathroom to get water), but the British dorms I've seen have had sinks in the room. I did prefer that, obsessive tea maker that I am.
