I just go ahead and prompt the silly things, accepting that I'm unlikely to get a fill. Except I do actually want them. Boo.

I do that too, but it's kind of sad when all I get is "second" and "omg this".

Do you prompt over at XMFC and get more fills?

Yes, I do but I have only left seven prompts and five of them have gotten filled :D

It's definitely a little sadface-inducing. I am often sorely tempted to fill my own. I also want to fill other people's silly prompts, but as if often the case with prompting, there's often a small detail that I probably couldn't handle as intended, and I don't want to disappoint the prompter. Like, last round, there was a silly prompt that I really adored, but it had an element of virginity kink and I knew I'd somehow work in the idea that it's a completely amorphous/not real thing and/or it would be defined as "hasn't seen a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and poor OP. :/

I was trying to avoid saying it! But the Mishalecki one where Misha was a wereunicorn and Jared was a developer (/virgin).

OMG, THAT ONE.

I didn't prompt it, but I bet you dollars to donuts they got that idea from an Inception fanfic.

I would totally fill my own prompts or fill others if I could write but I suck at writing, I really suck.

Re: Are we really that bad?

Unfortunately, I think that, a lot of the time, if you want something in particular (a silly premise, a certain rarepair, issues treated in x way), you have to write it yourself. I wish I could fill a bunch of silly prompts and be an ambassador for silliness, but 1) I don't have unlimited time and 2) I'm nervous about filling the prompt wrong! (Because I've done that, pretty severely).

And then there are the unintentionally silly prompts, like the excellent typo that took what was almost certainly a prompt about curses and fuck-or-die to this:

"Thanks to a course Kevin has to fuck Sam so both of them can live."

Might have started making notes on a college AU before deciding that filling it that way would be akin to trolling.

Re: Are we really that bad?

Kevin is very academically conscientious and always fulfills his course requirements. Sam feels mentorly towards him and wants to help. "This is life or death, Sam, it's like 50% of my grade."

I wish you would write it, even if only for us.

I am willing to prompt this if you are willing to write it because this story needs to be written.

It was in the under-age thread (because Kevin), so I was having to do backflips to try and make it work with a 17 year old, when I would far rather have just had Kevin be in his early-mid twenties. Probably Sam was going to be younger than canon.

Maybe I will work on it the way I want and post it to meme sometime or something :D.

I had this start (and this note: Kevin’s losing his apartment, and he can either find a new place to live or try to eat air, and that would suck. Kevin POV. Sam’s BF - Brady - has just left him after burning all his stuff, so he needs a new place to live, too) and it turns out I would far rather fill it with Kevin not-seventeen, because convoluted, and with either no sex or not much sex, so it is probably not kink meme material and all this will be rewritten anyway. So here, this is the stuff that probably won't exist later if I ever get back to it:

*
The guy is huge. Objectively huge; this isn’t just because Kevin’s short. Because he’s not. He’s average height. In fact, 5 foot eight is pretty tall for a seventeen year old Chinese-American. It’s only an inch and three quarters shy of the national average.

Kevin might have looked that up.

But Sam Winchester, Kevin’s four o’clock, is filling the doorway, even with the diffident head-duck he just did when he knocked on the open door.

He’s also... huh.

“Do you smell smoke?” Kevin asks, trying not to wrinkle his nose too much.

Sam ducks his head down a little more. “That would be me.”

“Your cigarettes smell like a burning building?”

“No, everything I own smells like a burning building,” Sam says, and makes a little product-demo arm wave over himself. “What’s left of it. You, too, could have this fine scent for one easy payment of a psychotic ex with a can of petrol.”

“Holy crap,” Kevin says. “You’re okay, right? I mean, obviously okay enough, you’re walking around, but, wow, were you there? Come in, sit down. Enjoy the way the room’s not on fire.”

“Yeah,” Sam says, and tucks some hair behind his ear. . “Um. Are you Kevin? Kevin Tran? Only I have a tutoring appointment with him, and. Uh.”

“Uh?” Kevin prompts. He’s used to people thinking he’s too young to be here. By most people’s standards, he is too young to be here. That doesn’t mean he has to make it easy for them.

Sam bites his lip. He has pretty nice lips, but Kevin tells his sex drive to keep it down, because it’s not allowed to crush on the students. Not even the giant kind who look like they could lift him up in one hand. Nope. Not even them.
*

and bleurgh. I think I would rather read someone else's take on it, to be quite honest, because I might be able to handle a silly little fill, but probably not an actual story.

filling it that way would be akin to trolling.

I'm half-convinced a whole bunch of prompts in that post was trolling anyway, after that "stop prompting, you're obviously one person" protest.

I think that protest was just someone who is out of the loop and didn't realize how popular Kevin/Sam had gotten. If you're not a memer, it must have seemed weird to go from zero to a dozen.

I get bored scrolling through page after page of prompts. If it's not in the first 10 pages or so, I'm not likely to see it.

One thing I miss about blindfold is people talking about the prompts on meme or doing page number exchanges.

I miss this, too! But maybe all it takes is somebody to actually start talking about some prompts they're interested in and then others will join in?

I had kind of hoped to "promote" the kinkmeme a little with the reminder that some other nonnies and I post at the beginning of every month; maybe we could use that thread to talk about the prompts or open a new one?

That sounds like a great idea! Maybe so we could have more to talk about (since there will be fewer prompts when the post just opened), people could talk about the previous month's prompts in that thread?

Sure! In fact, they could talk about any prompt, no matter in which month it was first posted, cause a lot of the prompts get re-posted anyway. Although I doubt that many people will go back and look at prompts that are like 5 months old, so the focus could, as you suggested, be the previous month and of course the new, incoming prompts.

I think this is a marvelous notion. I approve!

Would it be too much to have a similar thread/reminder on the 15th, at the end of the prompting session?

Re: Are we really that bad?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-09 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)

Er, by which I meant that then we could focus on the prompts from that session instead of the previous session, which kind of makes more sense to me.

Not too much at all IMO! We'll be in a different post then, so I doubt that I'd be too much to have another kinkmeme thread. To start the second thread at the 15th is an awesome idea, btw.
