The way you're saying it is really unpleasant, and for many people LJ has been down enough that for them blindfold did not go on, for others LJ hasn't been intermittent but completely gone for days.

However, in principle I think it would be really nice (but privilege, not right) if the mods of the two comms we've been worrying about most over here would consider a mirror/backup strategy for next rounds.

It would be great if the blindfold mods created a "in case of LJ outage/zombie apocalypse only" DW backup comm where they posted mod updates and/or where people could post fills (and repost the prompt they'd written it for) if LJ ever goes down again during a round. (Delicious would have to be better managed though, as someone(s) would need to be tagging DW as well as LJ fills.)

IIRC the spn j2 big bang mods have been very averse to anything other than LJ.

It would be great if they made a backup big bang DW comm for "in case of LJ outage/zombie apocalypse only" where they'd post mod announcements during an outage, and where during an LJ outage authors could post a backup masterpost with links to their story and the art at an off-LJ location (crossposting it to LJ once LJ was back up), but I don't know if they'd even want to consider that.

AFAIK, the AO3 Big Bang collection is an initiative set up by some readers (thank you if you're on meme!) without any official endorsement from the BB mods. So I think it's not listed anywhere on the BB LJ comm and many authors may not know they can post their BB to the collection. I <333 the AO3 collection (it's up and offers easy downloadable versions and kudos button, and lets me find many of the new and old BBs in one-page versions in one place), and hope all writers who already have AO3 accounts post their old and new BBs to it. And with the LJ outage, I hope more BB authors are getting AO3 accounts as fast as they can and will all post backup versions of their stories to the archive and collection.

AO3 doesn't host images yet which is a disadvantage for BB artists, but some writers have embedded images just as some would in their LJ story posts, using image URLs their artists have provided. And there are artists with AO3 accounts who do put up art posts on AO3 (they just have the images hosted offsite) which makes it easy for the story AO3 post and the story's art AO3 post to use the "works inspired by" button to crosslink to each other.

But these are "it would be really nice for eager readers if" hopes, not "all mods and writers should be doing this because my reading is more important than anything else" demands. ^__^

IDGI. I never implied anything else. You don't have to agree, but I have a right to my opinion.

Yes, and we all have the right to the opinion that you deserve meme's Douchenozzle of the Day award.

Whatever. That's your choice too and I would never attack you personally (unlike) what you're doing for expressing it.

I don't believe it's a hugely controversial opinion to say that the mods could have planned a whole lot better for this eventuality. And that it's pretty odd they hold such a grudge against AO3 and DW for some reason.

For a challenge this big, it just smacks of irresponsibility and I don't think it's unreasonable for challenge participants to find a way to post--somehow--on their day.

Maybe they did anon. Maybe they're just not telling you, personally. Everyone else knows about it and are reading the fics and pronouncing them the greatest ever but you're not allowed to know.

Irresponsibilty? Really? It's just a fandom thing. It's not really an obligation. Nobody's suffering because some authors haven't been able to post on their allotted day. I have no idea why you're so uptight and have this "post on your given day come hell or high water" attitude.

Because this week was already packed with a bunch of people who had rescheduled (sometimes several times). It's bad enough when you have upwards of 8 people posting on the same day, but then LJ goes down and no one is posting.

Next week or whenever they have people post (if they even have a real plan and it isn't "oh, post when you want") we'll have 15 big bangs in one day and fuck, it's bad enough posting at the end. Now if you're not a BNF or MNF you'll be forgotten in the chaos. And the stampede for everyone to read FF's errant BB.

It's also not fair, if their plan is to let these people post later, for them to have extra time to polish their story when everyone else didn't get that. It's horrible all around, but I thin there are some things they could do to make it more fair, but I don't trust them to even think of that.

And I do think not planning for something like this is a huge, major mistake on their parts.

I think you're being way too serious business about the politics of BB. Are you the person who freaked out when we had that BB so far rec thread?

Honestly, if you're so bitter about posting schedules and having more time to work and BNFs usurping all the attention, maybe participating in a challenge like BB isn't for you.

I have been on LJ for ten years, and it's gone down seriously twice in all that time. (The first time being earlier this year.) I think you're being ridiculous when you complain that they were unprepared in not planning for this situation. It's pretty unusual for LJ to go down to this extent for this period of time, and I can't blame the mods for not expecting it.

That said, I haven't heard of them setting up emergency alternate means of posting yet, which is kind of weird. I've already heard of a couple other challenges/fests coming up that have set up other methods of posting in case LJ doesn't get its act together soon.

Some people don't know if they're allowed to post to another account when they can't post to the BB comm. Some people don't want to post their fic anywhere other than livejournal. Some people might not have accounts at other sites and don't want to go through the requesting/set-up process just so they can post a fic that people may or may not be looking for. All of that sounds reasonable to me.
