Depends on the severity of the burn. Surgery to make sure that burns hasn't fused body parts together, making the scar tissue smaller for mobility, skin graphs aren't considered pure aesthetics because they serve a purpose beyond that. Yeah you look better, but it's because you have skin and your eyes aren't fused shut.
But if you're just getting a scar tissue removed because it looks ugly and it doesn't actually hamper anything, yeah it's not a necessary surgery. Maybe preemptive, because they tend to become problems over time, but not necessary, no.
Completely unnecessary. Unless you have health problems/pain - breast reduction for back pain, for example - or you've suffered some sort of illness or injury that requires corrective plastic surgery, but that wouldn't be considered cosmetic anyways. Someone like Danneel who was perfectly fine but decided to get double D's, most likely in a bid to make it as an actress due to lack of talent, skeeve me out. It's sad that you can "buy" pretty now.
It's looked like that since she was in Leon, and I know kids who went to Syosset High with her who can vouch that she looks pretty much identical to how she looked in high school.
Yeah, I'm sure the people that you know are super reliable. *eyeroll* Good plastic surgery is designed to look natural. The bridge of her nose is thinner and the tip was shaved down incrementally. Have another comparison shot:
Her nose looks identical in all those pictures. She just has makeup on, and when you contour an already small nose and then factor in flash photography it'll look teeny tiny.
Here's her at the Oscars a year ago: http://oi41.tinypic.com/11vk38m.jpg
And here's her when she was like, 12 or whatever: http://oi44.tinypic.com/jt4d1i.jpg
Right? And when would she even have had time to get a nose job? She was in the public eye for pretty much her entire life - she started filming the first Star Wars movie at 16 and she looked the same then too.
I don't get the praise of Natalie Portman for not having had plastic surgery. Congratulations on having good genes, I guess, but we're supposed to give her a cookie for being genetically blessed? It's not like she did anything to earn those looks. This is just another way of creating the pressure that makes women feel like they need plastic surgery.
I have nothing against looking at photos of hot people. I have nothing against talking about how hot hot people are. I just think it's weird when we act like natural hotness is something that's inherently praiseworthy, like it's proof of good morals or something (which is what I think the airt was hinting at with the Megan Fox comparison, although that might be me reading in the sorts of comments I've seen elsewhere), when it's really just a genetic accident.
So I'm all for saying "yay Jensen is hot!" I'm not all for saying "Jensen is better than [male actor x] because he is naturally hot," which is the vibe I'm getting here.
OT, but what's up with the Natalie Portman stanning on meme the past couple of days? Am I the only one here who finds her completely meh? I'm sure she's a lovely person and I haven't nothing against her, but I don't think she's anything more than averagely pretty and she's an okay actress but I wouldn't seek her out.
If you want to talk about naturally beautiful women, how about Kate Winslet?
I find it sad to live in a world where certain kinds of looks are valued to such an extent that people feel that if they artificially altered their bodies they would feel better.
That being said, I try my best not to judge an individual doing what they feel is best for them to be happy, considering we do live in this kind of society. I know of people who've had some kind of cosmetic surgery and feel really great about it, and I know some people who really regret it. I also know people who considered it for a while, but now are really happy they didn't do it. I also know people who had something done and are kicking themselves for not doing it earlier.
I would just really hope that everyone who does think about cosmetic surgery is really clear about what it is that they'd like changed, and why - that is, will whatever they're trying to change about their lives actually improve with surgery?
Unnecessary, and I judge the hell out of anyone who does it for solely cosmetic reasons. Maybe I'm projecting cause I grew up in a place where plastic surgery was consistently used to Westernize "ethnic" features, but I think it's fucking terrible. Surgery should only be performed for medical reasons, or if there's an injury like severe burns that mark you as "other," not cause you want to have bigger tits or you've been conditioned by the goddamn racist media to hate your African nose and want to whittle it down to look like Beyonce's.
I wonder what happens when a really hideous woman gets a shit ton of plastic surgery and tricks a guy into marrying her. If the kid turns out ugly as hell, could he divorce her by citing fraud? Hm.
Surgery is expensive, horrifically draining and just all around incredibly unpleasant. I don't even want to think about having surgery for necessary reasons at this point so can't imagine why anyone would want it for cosmetic reasons. However, if they are willing to put up with it, who am I to even care?
Plastic surgery.

I mean, go for it if you really want to, but whatever beauty "enhancements" you get are always going to have that artificial quality about them.
