Just read this...kind of wish I hadn't. A lot of it was really good, the frottage scene in the club I agree was definitely very hot. but I can't get over the fact that Jared ended up admitting that he actually HAD stolen Jensen's ideas in the beginning. Which, hello, academic plagiarism! kind of unforgiveable! And somehow, this confession led to Jensen needing to apologize to Jared! That pissed me off so much I wanted Jensen to punch Jared again and go off and find someone else who wasn't so goddamn superiorly perfect and a plagiarist to boot.

Author, a bit awkward you're likely reading this, so... you have a lot of potential and the first half I was really enjoying (and I disagree with the above nonnie, I thought there was good character in the location), but the ending really annoyed me, so, have a think about it?

An honest opinion is often hard to find. That's helpful - both positive and negative. Thanks.

How nice for you that you're finding all of this useful. Now please log out.

The fic discussion on meme is readers' space, and it's fun to have a space to share our reactions however frivolous and childish or constructive and carefully thought out they may be without a care for what the author might think.

You have been told you commenting here is awkward. It's not about how polite and gracious your responses are, it the fact that you are commenting here at all. At least give it a few days for discussion to die down naturally before you come here like a wet blanket to thank everyone and making it all about you.

Unnecessarily bitchy, but accurate.

na I'll agree with the unnecessarily bitchy comment of the nonnie above me.

I, personally, don't mind authors coming to comment on their threads only, I agree, that it should be after all the discussion is done. Otherwise, yes, it stifles conversation. As an author, however, I'm keenly interested in what my readers think without them feeling like they have to be nice (meme seems to inspire this and I have no idea if it's just because it's anon or because the commenters seem to think that the author won't read what's written--probably a combination of the two).

Oh, good god. Put on your big girl panties and just ignore her, will you? Conversation doesn't have to be stifled. Everyone here can make the choice to just fucking post their minds.

Why do you have to act like a bitch or a blushing wallflower? Just fucking talk already.

dA

if we wanted her to read our crits, we'd post them as comments to her entry.

I'm going to assume that, by this, you meant read and respond to because otherwise, it's a little naive to assume that an author's not going to read what you post on the meme. It's a public forum.

Yes, what you said. Oops.

It's just, I don't want to feel like I have to edit my opinion here. I want to read other people's POV and I don't want them to edit. If I were to post a comment on the author's page, I would try to be more constructive. Here, I just want the facts.

Whyever would you feel like you have to edit your opinion? Because she might talk back? If she would just be polite and keep her mouth shut you could say whatever you wanted, though?

because I'm hoping for a discussion with other readers, not with the author. a conversation in which the author is involved turns out differently. if she'd not responded, for example, this thread would be more about the content of the fic, rather than turning into a discussion about whether or not she should have responded.

this thread is of course open to her reading, but it's not her personal feedback channel. that's what her journal is for. this is for us to discuss what's good and what's bad. and in regards to the editing, i meant editing for an audience. the review i give to other readers is different than the review i would give to the author. different kind of feedback.

If you don't want her to read your crits, make a locked post where she can't find you, idiot. You're posting in public. Of course she can read it. Authors read this shit all the time. It's not some big secret.

She's not oppressing you. You can say exactly the same things you'd have said before. You're anonymous. How much more chickenshit can you be?

If you were pretending the whole time that authors somehow couldn't or wouldn't read this thread, you were either naive or lying to yourself.

NA I'm going to assume you're her friend and you don't usually follow this meme. (If you are a regular here, you should know better.) We are not anonymous out of cowardice, we are anonymous because there are benefits to anonymity, especially in a fic discussion. Conversation is non-hierarchic and in an mutually-owned space. Additionally, the comments that people make are divorced from being interpreted through the lens of the commenter's status. The fic discussion in this specific post while it may be read by authors is not intended for authors. That makes it very different from feedback left on a story for an author in an author's space. It's wonderful that an author can gain something from reading it, but this discussion is for readers.

Posting while logged in takes away from the discussion in innumerable ways, not the least of which is that there is now one participant who has a specific status (author of story) who is part of it, setting up a hierarchy.

People who are looking for a non-hierarchic, non-status based, unowned discussion are no longer going to want to participate in this one, which detracts from the conversation for those who are left.

I think the person who asked the author to log out phrased it very rudely, as I don't think the comments that came before were pointed enough for someone completely unfamiliar with meme to understand (awkward for who, how?), but I agree with the idea.

I have no idea who the poster is, I don't read J2, know nothing about the fic.

I'm just tickled by the idea that this is some private space where we can kumbayah by ourselves.

Seriously, if you don't want to talk to the author, don't talk to the author. Post about the story to readers and potential reads. The story is still right there, and you know what? She might have been reading anyway. Tons of authors read. It's not news.

This "setting up a hierarchy" stuff works exactly as long as you play into it. DON'T TALK TO HER. IGNORE HER. IGNORE HER STATUS IN THE HIERARCHY. FIGHT THE POWER.

Keep talking among yourselves. Share the freaking space with people who have different motives from yourselves. The world won't end.

No, I'm not her friend. No I'm not new. I'm also not precious about anon memes. It's not some safe space. It's just the internet. In public. For everyone.
