I'm pretty sure Dean didn't care why he was doing it. At one point, he kind of agreed with Sam using his powers against demons/Lilith. It was the drinking demon blood that he couldn't live with.

Yep. He was worried about where it would lead... that it was a manipulation rather than the gift Sam thought it was. Like Boromir and the ring, sort of. "I know what you would say, and it would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my heart."
