Well he explicitly said "Dean is confused about what happened at that moment and won’t actually find out what happened then until episode 7," so I assume that's what he meant.

I thought it might turn out there was angel involvement in making sure Cas didn't leave with them, but then it doesn't make Samandriel showing up make much sense. So idk. Maybe he just tripped on a root.

Yeah I know - I misread it and now my theory is falling apart. Poor theory.

To me, the most likely explanation for the person outside of Sam and Amelia's place is angels. And I'm really struggling to connect that with angels keeping Castiel in Purgatory, and yeah, with Samandriel. I'm pretty blank right now.

Samandriel is actually the avatar of the ship Sam/Andy/Gabriel. It's going to be really complicated when Sam has a threesome with him and Castiel, kind of like deciding what to do if two people with double-barrelled surnames have a kid.

OMG, MAYBE THAT'S ANDY'S VAN IN A DISGUISED PAINT JOB. Suddenly the whole season makes sense.

Oh, is this also part of the slide to 2014!Castiel? Is he just intrinsically drawn to the recreational substances and orgies? Sam is big enough to SEEM like an orgy.

One day Cas will solemnly tell Sam that he is almost an orgy in himself, intending a great compliment, and Sam will not know how to take it.

They have to get high with Kevin at least once. The fallout brings Dean and Linda closer together, moving them towards their wedding planning business.

"Samandriel" sounds like a S/D/C ship name made via the same "scramble the letters together until you come up with something that sounds good" method that gave us Shazam.

So maybe his endgame is WATCHING a van threesome.

It would all mostly fit in to the angels playing the long con theory (except for why couldn't the angels just fly in and take what they want, if they're after the tablet or Kevin. Though I guess that'd fit into the same suspension of disbelief that a lot of this show operates on, like how Crowley hasn't managed to kill Sam and Dean by now.)

But if it turned out that Cas was pulled out by the angels at the same time Dean was, it'd be pretty weird for Dean not to put together that Samandriel was lying to him at the auction. So I think it'll probably turn out that just some freak circumstance prevented Cas from making it through (though that doesn't really fit with the specific guilt they wrote about Dean associating leaving Cas behind as it being about him not needing Cas anymore.)

Right?? The thing I struggle the most with is figuring out what's supposed to mean something and what's something I'm supposed to just go with. (Like say - Crowley not managing to kill Sam and Dean).

It really seems like Dean feels he made some sort of choice that led to Castiel falling aside once he wasn't needed. But that seems hard to square up with the spoilers that he gets protective of Castiel. So I'm confused as to how he's all protective of Castiel and then something happens that leads him to think he gave up on him/let him fall away once he wasn't needed, but Dean didn't actually do that. I mean, if he just let go of Castiel's hand, I'd think that would be more of a vague survivor's guilt sort of thing.

If Samandriel was fishing for information and the angels really have had Castiel all this time, I could maybe see that fooling Dean. He chose a really innocent looking vessel - he talked about things that were geared to give Dean an emotional reaction to gauge how much he knew, but maybe that distracted Dean from being skeptical of him?

If this is some sort of long con, I really hope it's one that seems necessary to me, the viewer. Not: they're really after Kevin and the tablet and don't want to close Heaven or Hell. Maybe: they really need to try to get a lot of different pieces in place, the way they needed to get Sam in place in S4. If that happens, then I really hope that Sam/Dean/Cas figure it out pretty early on this time around, and that Castiel becomes sort of a double agent. And then somehow Benny fits into this somewhere?

Maybe he was protective, but they butted heads over Benny. Dean wouldn't agree to do this without Benny, and Castiel was never happy about it, and always felt hurt over it. So when Cas got stuck behind in Purgatory, and Dean and Benny both got out, Dean feels like he maybe should have stuck by Castiel, even if it meant they had to find their own way out. It wasn't deliberate, it wasn't something he could've predicted, but it still feels like he betrayed him. Like if he'd done it Cas's way, he and Cas could've found a way out together, and Cas wouldn't be stuck down there now.

That sort of thing would kind of fit, I think.
