It's a really terrible idea to me. Jared filling stuff in where canon doesn't explain it, that I've got no problems with but that backstory makes Dean into such an unsympathatic, nasty dick of a character that it's hard for me to buy Sam being willing to talk to him at all in the Pilot as it is. If I were Sam and Dean had a) stolen my girlfriend and b) assaulted me over it, I'd have called the cops on him when he showed up.
