I honestly think it's really sad that Dean doesn't have any actual identity apart from Sam. I makes me think that Dean has the lowest self worth ever.

I think Sam actually has some self worth, which is why we can see that even though Sam does love his brother, he can actually be happy without him. Sam is much more healthy person then Dean.

Are you kidding the last few years have been Sam totally isolated and disconnected, while all the characters were more Dean oriented (Lisa/Ben, Cas, Bobby). Sam is the one that seemed to have no identity outside of Dean for so long.

I don't agree at all. And if anyone took away Sam's identity, it's Dean. Dean's the one that got Sam back into hunting. If we look at Sam in S1, Sam was the one who had his own life and his own identity apart from Dean and his family. Dean has never had an identity apart from his family from what I have seen.

Um, are you forgetting the fact that it was all pre-ordained? That YED had demons stashed at Stanford? Brady ring a bell? That happy life that Sam built for himself was going up in flames (literally) whether Dean was there or not. And remember, Sam DID refuse to go with Dean, before Jess got killed, so it's not like Dean forced him to go.

Well, I'm glad Sam got the chance to live his own life for one year. He deserves it. He's paid enough.

I find it interesting that Sam only wants to go back into hunting if it's something that he is wither worried about or passionate about. Not because I think he enjoys hunting as the ideal life. I think ultimately, if it were up to Sam, he wouldn't live anything close to the hunting life.

I hate that it seems people blame for it. Sorry Sam doesn't fit the mold you want to force him in.

I am as perplexed as the next person that he didn't go looking for Dean, but I'm going to reserve judgment on that part and try to give the writers the benefit of the doubt. But now wanting to hunt? There are plenty of valid reasons why that last couple of years have been too hard on him he just had enough.
