I'm not talking about season 1, I'm talking about season 8. Dean has no right to mock Sam for wanting to get out of hunting and away from a life that he never wanted in the first place. A life that made Sam absolutely fucking miserable and unhappy. A life that destroyed his entire life period. A life that took away any chance of normalcy for Sam. And from what I'm hearing from the season 8 spoilers, is not a Dean that is a likeable person at all. Dean hasn't changed and he isn't progressing and evolving. His identity is still Sam and only Sam. At least Sam has evolved and showed progress and growth. Sam finding his identity for that one year is proof of this. Dean having Sam be his identity is not sympathetic, it's downright sad and pathetic.

Sam's life had been destroyed anyway. Sam knows that. And any fan that had seen past season 2 knows too.
Sam was never destned to be normal.
Actually, if it wasn't for his brother (and maybe John too) who knows if he'd be Lucifer right now and would rule Hell.

So that's a piss-poor argument.

And we don't know how Dean manages this situation. Maybe he just wants Sam to give it a chance and try if he'd be okay with hunting again. I don't think that'd be horrible from him. It's not like he knocked Sam inconscious and kidnapped him.

there are codependent relationship fans that like this so.... it's their right to prefer Sam and Dean's identity be wrapped up in each other from the show. It doesn't make Dean sad and pathetic. It's just characterization that doesn't cater to you.
