Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2012-07-13 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)Except I didn't say anything like that. That anon said they write for the response, and writing S/D fic isn't giving them enough of one, which is why I found it depressing and wonder why they're bothering to do it anymore.
It has nothing to do with them shipping D/C, it has to do with them not really shipping S/D beyond some extremely shallow reasons.

That is really, really not what they said.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2012-07-13 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)I don't know how you interpreted "have trouble mustering up enthusiasm for writing long S/D if not many people are reading it" with "stopped shipping S/D." Shipping is about more than what fic you write, and I even said that deep down S/D is still my OTP!
Like, I recognize that it's a bit sketch I have trouble writing without knowing people care. That's why I said I felt guilty, and why this is in a confession post. But it doesn't make me not a S/D shipper anymore.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2012-07-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)If S/D is the closest thing you have an OTP, and as you said in your other comment, something that supposedly inspires to you to squee, come up with scenarios, etc. but you're considering dropping it due to a lack in response, then, I'm sorry, I do question how hard you even ship it. You're saying it's not worth the effort to fic for what you get in return, so how much are you truly getting from it to begin with?
I'm a very infrequent fic writer myself, and when I do finally get my shit together to put something out, of course, I hope for a respectable response. But I write first and foremost because something inspired me to, not because I sat and picked out the most currently popular of my pairings, threw in some of the most popular tropes, and am waiting on my returns like it's some kind of calculated transaction.
But, you know, whatever, I'm not the ~bona fide~ shipper or fic writing police, and your way of doing fandom is what works for you. I suppose this is mostly my reacting badly due to the general decline in activity of S/D overall. Reading your initial comment with that in mind just rubbed me the wrong way.

The ship I write the most longfic does not necessarily represent the ship I ship hardest. There are other factors involved.
I write first and foremost because something inspired me to, not because I sat and picked out the most currently popular of my pairings, threw in some of the most popular tropes, and am waiting on my returns like it's some kind of calculated transaction.
This is not what I do. Of course I write for ideas that inspire me, and ships that I love (I do legitimately love D/C), and using tropes that I enjoy. But when I've dedicated weeks or months to something with little response it does discourage me and it certainly doesn't get me excited to try similar things again. when my inspiring D/C ideas seem to be better-liked and more read than my inspiring S/D ideas, I'm more likely to pick them. I don't think that means I'm obligated to transition to D/C fandom permanently, lol.
I suppose this is mostly my reacting badly due to the general decline in activity of S/D overall.
And my anxity is motivated by the same thing, in a way. I think it's likely a bit of a cycle between fewer authors writing S/D so fewer people are commenting on S/D so fewer authors are writing S/D, etc.
But like, I posted long S/D in the last week, so maybe I'm not the person to be frustrated with?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-14 12:22 am (UTC)(link)(And even if it's not the fic I think it is, all of this still applies!)
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2012-07-14 01:31 am (UTC)(link)I may very well be that person (and if I'm not I'll pretend I am). Thanks very much for the support, it actually means a lot. <3
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2012-07-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)Hum, I don't particularly ship S/D but whenever I do something for them the response tends to be much better in comparison to my usual things. Maybe our fandom circles just vary greatly? But creating fanwork for a big ship is still a huge bonus in mine.
