Megalyn Echikunwoke. She played Cassie and is hot as a fire. I guess this answers my question about whether I can use her in RPF and expect people to recognize her name, though.

Though yes, I'm very sorry, I don't recognize most of the one shot actors' names. It takes me forever to learn the ones who have been around for several eps. :(

But she is beautiful! I would love to see her in RPS. Esp. RPS paired off with Alona. :D

I think because she played a love interest, I automatically put her on the love interest RPF tier with characters like Genevieve and Cindy. When I think about it, I'm always a little surprised I've never seen her in a fic. In fact ... have I seen a SPNRPF fic with a non-OC black woman in it?

Anyway, she's also just spectacularly attractive to me and has an interesting name, so she stuck in my head.

I don't think I've seen a non-OC black woman, either. I mean, there aren't a lot of choices? Megalyn, whoever played Tamara, whoever played Missouri (but she's probably too considered old for people to pair her with anyone). Who am I forgetting?

I feel like I've seen her more than once, but my clearest memory is of her popping up in atimi's Chad-POV J2 fic, where he's going around set thinking about how much he'd have to drink before he'd sleep with the various women, and when he sees Megalyn he thinks she's so hot that she'd be the one who'd have to drink before sleeping with him.

But I don't think many of the one-off love interests show up in fic often. Like the actresses who played Sarah, Madison, and Jamie? Are they ever in fic? Maybe they are and I just didn't notice because I don't know their names.

You raise a good point about other one-off love interest actors not showing up much -- I think you're right, I don't recall encountering the ones you mention either. So my outrage!! (not really) about the lack of Megalyn is looking increasingly unsupportable and probably just boils down to wanting an excuse to think about her naked. :)

Yeah, this doesn't in any way mean that SPN shouldn't have more recurring black female characters (I was about to say any, and then I remembered Raphael), but the one-off actresses, no matter how hot, don't seem to be big in fic. In any case, you should feel free to take this opportunity to talk about her naked. In lots and lots of detail. Who would you like to see her paired with? AU or non-AU? Does she at any point wear a thigh holster?

I don't know who played the female Raphael vessel, but if I wrote RPF I would look it up and have her play a role. She had great auctoritas.

I'd love to see more "Rafaela" in SPN AUs, too. Or whatever; obviously I have no problem with a female-presenting character named Raphael.

The woman who played her is Lanette Ware.

I hardly ever even see Cindy in RPS, though. I think it's more that there's this set cast of characters that came up and was solidified years ago. Gen gets an in because she didn't just play a love interest for Sam, she actually is part of RPS "canon" as Jared's "love interest".

Not that I mind shaking it up at all! Megalyn is a very pretty name and she's a gorgeous woman. I like it best when RPS characters have interesting names. For some reason it makes me all giggly when Jeff and Steve play pirates or whatever, simply for the name factor. I get over it pretty fast (JDM/JA is my RPS OTP, I had to get over that one!) but I love interesting names in RPS so much. I started looking for Jensen centric stuff originally solely because of his name. :D

I think the actor who plays Missouri has shown up? (I can't remember her name either I suck so much - oh wait! Google says it's Loretta Devine.) Not often, but at least once or twice. This is what happens unfortunately with a show that has no recurring black women which all on its own is just. Yeah.

I've seen Cindy in a few recent stories, I think. It's funny, it's this environment of codification and fanon that makes me interested in RPF at all (since I'm not really interested in fic about the actors per se) but at the same time I do find myself wishing people would shake it up a little more. And, uh, write me that Alona/Megalyn I crave. My motives aren't altogether pure.

JDM has "Morgan" going for him! "Jeff" is unassuming to the point of comical in a lot of contexts, but "The Dread Pirate Morgan"? Oh yeah, I'd sail away from that at top speed if I were the captain of a merchant vessel.

You may be right about Cindy. I'm really terrible with names, if you haven't picked up on that already!

I'm torn on shaking it up. On the one hand, IDG why Steve and Chris show up in RPS so much, especially not these days. Same goes for Sandra, though I guess she's not quite as common as she used to be? And yet the tendency to reuse the same cast is what gives me the bits of JDM/JA that we get and oh man, I'm not ready to give those up any time soon. D:

Oh nonnie! You seem awesome and if I weren't completely blocked right now, I'd write you commentfic for Alona/Megalyn. I'm sorry. Prompt it on kink meme, maybe? Possibly with pictures?

JEFF. Yes! Which almost takes it to the point where it works, since it's paired off with Morgan and Morgan is a very sexy name. Also, now I want pirate fic with Dread Pirate Morgan and maybe JDM is the Man In Black and EMW has Buttercup!Jensen and Jared is Inigo.

Another anon mentioned Raphael, who I always forget about because, um. I didn't really watch those episodes very closely and was a very low point in my love for the series, but from what I recall, Raphael was one of the highlights.

+1. That was already near the top of my to-read list.

Eh. Use her name and we'll look her up. It's not exactly bland or generic; I think people will guess it's someone in particular. Or you could always mention her in your author's note. (A lot of my flist doesn't read RPF at all, so I have a list of everyone who's appeared in my fic, with cross-references to who they've played on the show and links to photos on imdb.)
