There does seem to be mostly J2 in the RPS section though.

Yup! J2 is still the dominant pairing over there, though the bottom!Jared to bottom!Jensen stuff feels much more balanced than it once did. I see more Cockles stuff and more JDM/various people stuff, as well as the random woobie!Richard or various Marks/woobies prompts, but it's still predominately J2.

Doesn't surprise me though, CW RPS fandom in general is still like 98% J2. A lot of D/C people seem to ship J2 if they do RPS and while meme has a high volume of people who claim that they're sick of it, the general fandom trend still shows J2 as the most popular pairing overall.

I still see way more bottom!Jensen over bottom!Jared. I wouldn't say it's really balanced. Maybe there's slightly more bottom!Jared then there was before but still, there seems to be more bottom!Jensen overall.

I think there's still more of it but it used to be 90% bottom!Jensen and now it's like 60/40. Fills are even closer to being even, IMO.

I think it only appears that way because many Jensen!girls have departed fandom (or at least I feel they have) and are not as active anymore in fanfic. I still say it's 70/30 though overall. I'm not complaining, I'm a bottom!Jensen fan anyways.

Split the difference and say 65/35? :D

Jensen!girls aren't as active as they once were. The BNFs certainly aren't, you don't have people like FF or even atimi posting too often these days. There's LLFs that still post, but it's not like it used to be. IDK if it's the same on the Jared-girl side of fandom but BB makes me feel like they're still going strong. There's been a lot of Jared-centric stuff this year.

LMAO, okay fine. XD

Yeah, I think Jensen-centric as well as Dean-centric fan fic has dramatically decreased over time. I notice a lot more Jared-centric and Sam-centric POV's in J2 and Wincest fics. I wonder why that is. The fan base for Dean/Jensen isn't has active as it used to be.

I used to write Dean-centric fic but he's just become so depressed and blah that there's nothing interesting I can do with him short of suicide fic. Season 7 made me into much more of a Sam fan and almost everything I've written lately has centered around him. His headspace is a little more fun to play with than Dean's.

I'm a Sam-leaning bi bro who still loves Dean, but I agree with you. Dean's character has become too stagnant to be able to write him effectively in fic. Writing as well as reading Sam-centric fic is much more fun and interesting overall. I hope that Dean does get some significant character development and growth next season though. I hate this rut that Dean has been in for the past few seasons (going back to season 5 imo).

Sam feels like a much more dynamic and engaging character in S6-S7. There's so much more to do with him and canon handled him so much better than they did Dean. The only interesting thing that Dean had going on was the Lisa and Ben storyline and they did a horrible job with that.

It doesn't surprise me at all that people aren't interested in Dean right now, with the way he's been portrayed lately. No meaty storylines and an often outright unsympathetic portrayal means people go looking elsewhere.

Dean has come off as really unsympathetic the past few seasons, especially last season.

You say nothing at all that I disagree with. :(

:D

I agree with your second paragraph. It's not to me that there's more Jared and Sam POV, since there used to be a lot of Jensen or Dean-centric Jared and Sam POV pieces, but now the fic seems more focused on Sam or Jared instead of Dean or Jensen?

IMO, a lot of it is that fandom eventually gets tired and moves onto new things. There was a lot of Dean-centric and Jensen-centric stuff for years, so it makes sense that eventually people would burn out and want other stuff.

I also think Dean's characterization over the last two seasons has driven a lot of Dean-girls away. There are some who like him still, but I see so many former Dean!girls talking about how they still love the character but don't like him very much these days, or how they aren't interested in SPN as a whole anymore. I still occasionally see the wistful "would it kill them to remember Dean's hell trauma?" posts, but they're petering off as people lose hope and move on.

I went through a Dean phase in s6 and the first bit of s7 and wrote more Dean than Sam, even though I'm Sam-leaning, but it's gotten hard for me to believe in Dean taking the initiative to change, and I'm not very interested in Dean being rescued or healed just being the punching bag of the fates if whatever it is, good or bad, isn't coming FROM Dean.

Oddly, I think I've been writing a less likable Sam than I used to, even though I mostly find s7 Sam very likable, but he's a lot more dynamic to me than Dean at the moment, and therefore more interesting to write.

I agree with everything here, but wanted to add that atimi still posts semi-frequently, but is now called bertee. Seems to have posted at least a fic a month for for the past several and just posted a BB.

bertee's BB was great, but rather Jared centric

Agreed! I was actually surprised to see ze was a Jensen!girl. I don't keep track of who is a what!girl, so I had no clue.

It was Jared POV and Jared was the main character but it gave us a lot of popular old school Jensen tropes that I enjoyed.
