Singer gave an interview that made it sound like Castiel's storyline was still undecided for the season. Some people are assuming that all of the purgatory scenes will be filmed at the beginning of the season, then further assuming that means Castiel won't be in the purgatory scenes or else they'd already know what his storyline is since they've started working on the beginning of the season.

Why would all the purgatory scenes be filmed at the beginning? Singer said that the flashbacks would occur through the season; it doesn't seem likely that they'd have those parts written and filmable way in advance.

However, Singer has been talking about Dean getting out of purgatory with no "they" or "and Cas", and he gave the undecided storyline answer in response to a remark about Cas's disappearance. I do think the interview is intended to suggest that Cas isn't in purgatory, but I think it could well be foiler rather than spoiler.

Huh, I had the exact opposite reaction. It felt to me that he was saying that Cas was in Purgatory but that when Dean gets out, he gets out on his own and Cas stays behind. It's kind of reading between the lines to get to that conclusion, but that's what it felt like to me.

I'm sorta curious to know when that interview was given. The wording of the answer about Cas was basically the exact same as the info released by tvguide shortly after the finale.
