I totally disagree with you that female characters have fitted one of your two stereotypes (or been jokes) suddenly Charlie was different. I also disagree that there was some problem with development that was unique to female characters.

I never said it was only about the female characters. There were issues with the males too.
But most female characters fitted those stereotype, not all (Tessa and Ellen didn't) but most of them did, imo.
