I'm still not certain that Cas is definitely not there, but I think, in a vague speculating way, that they might have left it open in the finale on purpose, and once they decided to do purgatory through flashbacks they probably didn't want to have too much of Cas's screentime in the season to be flashback rather than in the present. I'm not a passionate Cas fan, but I'd be annoyed if I felt like I was seeing 90 percent what had happened to Cas and only 10 percent what was happening to Cas in the present. They don't have nearly as much flexibility for him as for Sam and Dean, who are in every ep.

Or we could be completely wrong and Cas could be in purgatory with Dean and they just don't want to spoil it.

I think some of the spoilers sort of already confirmed (eh...) Cas was yanked out? That's the idea I have at this point. However, at the time, I didn't interpret there was any sure indication in those scenes that Cas was out of there.

Also, the tone I've seen used by other fans in other places is that only a delusional casfan would think Cas and Dean were both there all by their lonesome. Since you're not a Casfan yourself, I guess it's confirmation this is not the case, though: a large portion of fandom thought they were both were stuck there, regardless of affiliation.

da

Which is weird, considering the number of D/C haters who spent weeks vomiting all over their shoes at all the Purgatory D/C fanservice they "knew" they would have to endure in season eight. These are probably the same people.

Yes, fandom is the borg and we all think alike. *watches you vomit on your shoes*
