I like gen! Gen is good. :) I'm a multishipper, so I'll read just about anything that has Dean in it except Dean/Mary, Dean/Bobby, and Dean/Ruby. Anything else, I'm game for. I just have a hard time finding Dean-centric pairing fic instead of stuff where Dean's in the pairing, but it really more focuses on the other character and Dean's there mostly to support their story.

Thanks for the recs! The last time I see a story posted for ratherastory was back in April and it was May for roque_clasique, though. Do they have more recent stuff? Am I looking in the wrong places?

Well, I know ratherastory was taking June off from the Internet to write like mad; presumably we'll see fruits of that soon. roque_clasique wrote something for springfling. I guess I figured "has posted this year, has not since disappeared into the Avengers vortex" counted as active. :D

I'd rec you ficwriter1966, too, but her stuff is almost all little one-shots.

That we've reached the point where "active" means "has posted this year" makes me sad. XD

Ficwriter1966 is a weird blend of "aw" and "DNW" for me. Her OC verse holds no interest but I like some of her oneshots. They never seem to have much tension though.

Yeah, I don't get at all excited about her OC verse, but some of her one-shots have some very nice character study stuff going on. Although, as you say, the tension is often pretty understated.
