Having made this comment, it struck me that I shouldn't have. We pull apart and judge the physical appearances of actresses way more than we do the male guest stars, and I shouldn't have participated in that.

We care zero if she can act, the first thing we have to talk about is if she's pretty enough to us and fill our standard. And when we decide we don't like her then we'll talk about how horrible she acts.

I find this so offensive. I'm a black short girl who's kind of chubby and has horrible hair and I'd like people to like me for being me not for being black or chubby or short. Like, I love my race and where I come from but sometimes people makes me feel like an object, like they're only using me to break an stereotype but don't really care about me.

Yeah. I want more diverse representation on the show, too. I would love more people who looked like me, and I still am kind of psyched that Kevin's BFF was Asian and not thin. But when the part is actually cast and people seem to be bringing up race just to sneer at the actress's "looks" it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I was pondering this, too. But I do think, talk, and pull apart the physical appearance of the guys on the show, too - how much of my life has been spent extolling the virtues of many of Jared's very specific features! - so although I know it's problematic to put too much stock in judging an actress by her appearance, I don't feel too bad discussing it a little, as long as it doesn't become judging her worth by it. I do this for the male guest stars, too. Also, re: your point about her being older, I love that too. It may be my Sam/Jody adoration rearing its head, but I find Sam/older woman incredibly sexy, so I am excite!

I am also already considering what RPS femslash ships I could put her in. *_*

I'm sorry but the way fandom talks about a guy's appearance is totally different. When we're talking about a guy we're already fangirling and we just talk about awesome, hot and sexy his body is. When we talk a bout a girl we start criticizing her body, her skin colour, her hair, her height, her voice...and start wishing for a recast.

Well, I guess. Parts of fandom are sucky like that. But I am talking about this new actress' appearance personally because I find her sexy and interesting, and I'm excited to see her in action. If I didn't like her appearance, I wouldn't talk about it because it would be cruel and pointless.
