It is imperative to have a tentacle around his neck, though (and I guess his limbs, whatever). This is all very delicate and he needs to be held still.

This is an excellent point. It's an intense sort of feeling, and he needs to be prevented from writhing (that's the job of the tentacles) and damaging himself (the last thing anyone wants) or trying to get a tentacle into any of those other orifices before they're good and ready. So yes, a tentacle around his neck, and more twined around his limbs. Perhaps a larger one wrapped around his belly and hips. They can pet and soothe him while the detail work is seen to.
