Yes, and that's quite nonspecific (what does "soon" mean?). More details about what's going on with Dean would apparently be more specificity than they want us to have.

The article implied it would be pretty much immediate. I doubt the separation will be more than one episode. That would break from SPN tradition anyway, since each time the series has ended with Sam and Dean separated, they were reunited right away.

Actually, each time Sam and Dean have been separated in general has ended with an almost immediate reunion. 4.21-4.22 was about a half episode in length, 5.02's departure was longer, lasting until 5.04, but 5.03 and 5.04 were back to back with no time past between them, so it wasn't that long of a break. Dean was immediately resurrected in S4 after his death in the S3 finale, RoboSam found a reason to go after Dean in the first S6 episode. I don't see any reason to doubt that they'll repeat that pattern this time either.

And even if they do, they could give us something about Dean. And yet there's been complete silence, save that he and Sam will be united soon.

Most of those separations involved quite long fictional time breaks, though (even 5.2 I think some PTB said at some point was supposed to be at least two or three months). Which wouldn't mean anything for the weight given the elapsed time storylines if they are doing the same very small proportion of flashback to forward narration in 8 as in 4 and 6, but I think its conceivable that they are starting with the reunion but having a number of split episodes later telling Sam and Dean's stories during the separation.

The only reason I suspect this is the Doylist one that if giving the actors more time off is a major consideration that would be a way to do it without frontloading the time they'd get off right at the start of the season. OTOH, if they are trying to make the show easier for the casual viewer to follow, splitting the narration between past and present like that for a number of eps through the season could be risky.)

This is all speculation, by which I mean prewank. The point remains that the creators aren't withholding Dean spoilers because they duncurr about him and he'll be doing nothing all season while Sam goes on a series of dates with an increasingly large harem of women, but because he ended the last season in an intense situation and they don't want to give away how that's going to play out. Note that the only Sam spoiler we've gotten involves the first episode to shoot, refers almost entirely to the primary character introduced by that episode and to Sam only with respect to her, and tells us nothing about the seasonal arc or any aspect of the situation set up in the S7 finale.

Sam goes on a series of dates with an increasingly large harem of women

Season 8 hopes shattered! (In my head, in between seeing Sam and his harem, we see Dean washing the car a lot, and sometimes playing solitaire)
