Re: question about Sam and season 8.

Think, though, what the flip side of MS!Sam must have been for the hunts he was involved in (and he was hunting, after all -- even he didn't spend 24/7 on getting Dean back). I have no idea if Amelia's tragedy (whatever it is) stems from the hunt where Sam meets her (though it seems likely, especially since the ep is tentatively called Heartache), or if that will take place while Dean's in purgatory or develop into romance before Dean gets back if it does take place while he's gone, but at this stage in Sam's development I don't think I'd want him to go back to being able to detach himself from people who might need his help in favor of monofocus on his goal, even if that goal is Dean.

IDK, MS!Sam and soul-selling 2.22 Dean are great television, and are also sympathetic figures, but I'd rather see the writers find a way to work on the intensity of the Sam n Dean stuff (as they did, for instance, in 7.2) while still keeping the growth that made Dean's response to losing Sam in 5.22 less destructive than the aftermath of Cold Oak, and could I hope give us a Sam who could be driven to rescue Dean without being cut off the way MS!Sam was.

And I'd be fine with that. I'm cool with balancing things and strong relationships can be formed while Sam is freaking out about Dean. I just really hope they give us some of the MS!Sam vibes this time since they kinda skimped on that in S4 and it IS great television. For me anyway, it's been a long, long time since I saw Sam (or Dean) delivering great television, at least when it comes to each other. I miss it.

That sort of dedication is exciting and gets my attention. I want more of that. It's not Sam detaching himself from people who need his help, I want Sam to continue to help people. He's a big damn hero after all.

Though tbh I think everyone is making a big to-do over nothing since I'm almost 100% certain that Dean will be rescued in 8.01 anyway.

I think the reunion will happen in 8.1. I also think there's at least even odds that 8.3 involves flashbacks and that some of it takes place before 8.1.

Yes. One thing I really liked about the S5 finale/beginning of S6 was that losing Sam was a crushing blow to Dean, and it came across like that, but it also came across differently than that (also self-hatred fueled) destructive response that he had the first time he lost Sam. It was character growth, and essential to see.

Of course losing Dean to Purgatory would be a HUGE, terrible thing for Sam (just look at his response in the last few seconds) but I would be really sad if it played out exactly the same way as MS. Sam isn't the same person he was then, and his relationship with Dean isn't the same as it was then. That doesn't mean I don't expect him to be focused on finding his brother - there are just ways to do that which show character growth from the obsessive, dark, isolated Sam from MS.

Besides, if writers kept throwing the same situation at characters, and they kept reacting in the exact same way each time, that would be really strange storytelling.

especially since the ep is tentatively called Heartache

I was seized with a sudden moment of Heartache being a reprise of Heart, and the idea that Amelia as a new form of actually Madison from Purgatory.

I'm sorry meme, I'll be able to let it go once it airs. Until then, I live in a bit of hope.

Nonnie, nonnie, nonnie.

NONNIE.

YOU GIVE MY HEART HOPE. STOP GIVING MY HEART HOPE, IT ALWAYS HURTS SO MUCH WHEN IT DOESN'T COME TRUE.

(longs for Madison to come back AND to have season long Purgatory adventures SO MUCH)

I've been trying not to get too excited seeing some of the location people tweeting about Purgatory related things. It could all just be some measly and miserly small flashbacks. I'm trying to temper myself to avoid disappointment, okay?

I have no hope of that but would read the fic. Several times.
