Can't rewatch right now, but I seem to remember TCCoDW not being terribly highly regarded. Is this the case? I liked it (but I'm, er, a bit EOG).

Do we (collectively) have an interpretation for what exactly Gabriel was attempting to achieve (and did he succeed?) in CC?

"Changing Channels" is pretty straightforward. He was trying to get Sam and Dean to vessel up. But they trapped him in an angel fire ring and shamed him and by "Hammer of the Gods" he'd changed his mind.

But, deism! Superficially, it's a good fit, with the rejection of an active, interventionist God, cause that fits (original) God's role in SPN-verse. But what about the rejection of dogma? Or miracles? We could talk about the ethical rejection of Heaven's dogma. And if supernatural events such as miracles are not held to reveal actual God, then that fits, too. These events occur, but they're just the work of heavenly dicks, not any revelation of God.

If God gave humans the ability to reason, and that's the most important thing, then the rejection of the Lucifer/Michael Apocalypse plan makes sense.

What about whether prophecies are rejected? What about the meaning of God!Cas? Is he contrary to reason?

Heh, I was just coming here to chastise the ayrt for not being conducive to discussion (we're a bit hard up for discussion atm), but possibly we could generate wank. Possibly not.

I was also just about to complain that I still couldn't find the clip in question, but then I did. I am now contemplating creepy!space-invading!Cas intently.

I think TCCoDW in itself wasn't bad, but within the context of S5, it was the third filler ep in a row and that just killed the momentum the first 4 eps builds up.

DEAN IS AN ASSHOLE

It wasn’t just cold outside, everything was covered in snow. It was a lot, hopefully enough to keep most people away from Dean’s sales. He knew he wasn’t going to get through the day without punching a soccer mom, but he hoped it was only one instead of a whole dozen.

He gave John a separate set of keys and made sure he knew to meet back at the car promptly at nine o’clock so they could move on to their next destination.

“Ok.” Dean cracked his knuckles. “Remember what I told you?”

“I have to punch the soccer dads and trip the soccer moms.” John sighed.

Dean walked towards Target ready to knock anyone out who got between him and all the season’s hottest new toys.

“Hey!” Dean yelled at a random man. “Watch out.”

“I’m just standing here.”

“Yeah well, let’s keep it that way.”

He didn’t have any problems and only had to call one person a not nice word. It wasn’t even his fault. They were both reaching for the same toy, which they had plenty of and she shoved him to get to it first. He could have just ignored her but she didn’t have any manners so he didn’t feel bad about calling her a bitch once he checked to make sure no kids were around. She was a bitch and deserved to be called much worse than that. One of his helpers gave her a stern lecture about shoving and she still didn’t apologize.

When he filled up five separate baskets Dean got another one and made one last sweep of the toy aisle. He wasn’t shopping for his kids anymore He was shopping for all the kids who weren’t as fortunate as his. He picked things any kid would like, not just little boys.

(Oh, he cares about everyone, except for the kids of people he shoved!!!!)

OMGWTF???

Even though Dean was the last one of them to catch the cold, he was the first one who declared himself virus free. Sam knew that once again it was his determination that got him over it. He couldn’t be sick, not when he had lights to put up outside and three kids to take care of.

At first he was working with John. They got three bushes done before John gave up, punched him and went back to the barn. Anthony tried to help out next but like John before him he simply couldn’t do it correctly. Dean didn’t see what their problem was, it’s not like it was complicated. Sure he was specific, but not more so than any other dad in the country.

Each bush got exactly three hundred lights, no more and no less. The strings of lights contained three hundred twinkling bulbs which meant one string per bush. John understood all that but when he started to wrap the bushes Dean threw a shit fit because he was doing it all wrong. When people came to the house they weren’t supposed to be able to see the wires. Each wire had to be tucked into the evergreens and well hidden. That’s when John gave up, there was no way he was standing outside in the cold to listen to Dean give orders about proper bush illumination.

Anthony got the wires tucked in per Dean’s instructions but he wasn’t evenly distributing the lights. You had to work very evenly or you’d end up with a lopsided effect that people would pass and gawk at.

“Oh no.” Dean sighed.

Calling Nathan retarded was bad enough, but there were some words people should never say. That was right near the top of their big list of words that were never to be uttered out loud. Coincidentally right above cunt, which Anthony’s father most certainly was.

(The surrogate, Amy, decides not to come to the party celebrating the new baby, because she fears it would be emotionally difficult to be around the baby and remain detached so soon after giving birth. Dean is an asshole about it):

In the kitchen they found Mikey sitting at the kitchen table finishing up his eggs and talking to Anthony about school. He was still completely bored with it and only went because it was what was expected of him. Alex asking him questions just confused him. He knew Alex already knew the answers and he saw no reason why he should be asking the students.

Even if he was bored with school he still enjoyed it mostly because Dean had him convinced it was a great thing to be better than everyone else. Unlike Dean Mikey would never gloat about his obvious superiority, instead he went out of his way in the classroom to help his classmates understand.

“So I guess turkey just sounds better than corn.”

“I guess so.” Anthony nodded. “I never knew that.”

“What you don’t know could fill a warehouse.”

“Mikey!” Sam yelled. “Apologize to Anthony right now, that’s not very nice.”

“Uh.” Dean coughed. “Kids say the darndest things.”

“Daddy told me that.” Mikey frowned. “It’s a good thing Anthony is pretty because he’s not nearly as smart as daddy is.”

Dean wanted everything to be perfect for Ollie. Close to perfect wouldn’t do it. He had to see and approve everything beforehand. The invitations Sam picked weren’t nice enough so Dean had to talk to the designer and have them remade. The caterers they hired for every party had no clue how to properly cook food and didn’t even realize it until Dean told them.
