Yeah, there was actually some decent discussion going on about the witch/warlock situation. I like talking about these issues, but I've decided that the internet is definitely not a good place to do it. The race thread has now been locked, though, because of the poster who was continually belaboring their point about Damon/Bonnie.
It's a tricky thing for the mods, I think, when you're having a discussion about race, where a lot of people's feelings on the matter are subjective. A poster can completely derail a thread, and their opinions can not be based on fact or anything we've seen in canon, but they're still that person's opinions. You can't exactly tell someone "Don't be offended by this", even if their argument is weak and nonsensical (which is not always the case, but was here). They see it how they see it, and the mods tend to only shut people down after multiple complaints have been made.
What really annoyed me, though, are the posters who scrambled to reassure the offended poster, despite the fact that they were wholly full of shit. One poster even expressed, in several different threads, their fear of their favorite show being racist, and how they didn't want to have to stop watching because of it.
