So, Beckett's boss (the police captain) who has been her mentor and a show regular for all these seasons turns out to have been part of an ongoing kidnap for ransom scheme (and believe me, there was a whole thing earlier in the year where he got all self-righteous and made some other guy turn himself in for far less), murdered some guy, and then has been aware for years of a cover-up of the whole incident that resulted in Beckett's mother being murdered. Beckett's mother's murder was, of course, why she became a cop, and somehow we're supposed to believe that the police captain mentored her all this time and got her into homicide despite the fact that she was trying to find *him* all these years. It was character assassination of the highest order. I've actually never seen worse on TV. It was like what the Mission Impossible movie did to the MI TV show. Oh, yeah, and he's black.
Anyway, he feels all guilty and remorseful and stuff, and gets himself killed trying to kill the assassin that's been sent after Beckett (because she's getting too close to the truth). Which was useless, because at the end of the ep, some other person kills her anyway.
Okay, he shoots her and her eyes fall shut and it's obviously going to be a fake-out because she's the female lead, there's no show without her, they're not going to kill her unless she demands more money, I'm sure. But they made it look like she died and next season will probably take place nine months later after all the interesting recovery and consequences are over with. So the entire intent of this scene is just to jerk the audience around.
Oh, yeah, and Castle told Beckett he loved her right before her eyes fluttered shut. Which will probably also be put in a drawer sometime during those nine months that they'll never let us see.
And here I'm mostly pissed because one of the characters on H-50 that I thought had a decent moral standing, turns out they don't. Also The writers pulled a complete dick move (IMO) and wrote themselves into a corner.
I watched it last night and I'm so pissed that I don't even know what to think. Almost every character but kono was OOC. She and that CIA chick should run off together, once she gets out of jail and stuff.
Here's what I don't get. They had immunity. Immunity is irrefutable, right. Even if not, she put the money back to cover for them so there's an old lady witness but no money is missing, right? Let's not even get to the governor's part which... kind of makes sense. But still. Really?
I think the part that pissed me off most was the danny/rachel/grace angst triangle where he agrees to meet them at the airport and doesn't make it. Dude. You KNOW you can't save the day, wrap up your shit, and hop on a plane to the manland that quick. Not to mention how fast she went from "I don't want to hurt Stan" to "ok, I told him. Let's roll."
Fuuuuuck I have so many thoughts but lunch is over :(
Steve was IC to me, being obsessed with finding his parents killer is his character. Kono was good too. Chin I'm not too sure of, he's a hard nut to crack. But Danny... Don't get me started on him.
I think their immunity went out the window when the Gov. went down.
From the beginning of the ep. When they confirmed that yes Danny and Rachel are in fact sleeping together even though she's STILL MARRIED; I knew I was going to have issues with his characterisation. Correct me if I'm wrong but Danny was generally the Moral Compass of the team, right? So for him to willfully cheat with his ex-wife was wildly OOC to me. And Rachel's whole I'm pregnant; it's yours thing... How does she know unless she's Only been sleeping with Danny (and what about Stan, isn't he gonna start to wonder what's up) she has no way of knowing if it's Danny's or Stan's. So I kind of want her to DIAF post haste. While I'd hate to lose Grace (I'm a sucker for kids when they're used right) I really want to hear that the flight from Honolulu to Newark went down.
I guess I can swallow Steve's obsessiveness (I can't believe he was actually right and the Governor was working with Wo Fat this whole time).
I knew that old lady would come back to bite Kono in the ass. But how can the investigation turn up much if the money is all there? Then they'd know the governor was corrupt and covered up for them and I doubt she left a trail, idk. I guess we'll find out next season.
I'm really pissed about the Danny/Rachel thing too. Like, she was totally one of my favorite characters and I would have loved to see them having a good platonic relationship for Grace's sake, but that cheating and the pregnancy and the leaving... it just seemed like it was totally out of nowhere. I could see maybe a one-night accident where they slept together and then realized HO SHIT THIS IS WRONG but... idk, idk. I'm not buying that the Danny we've seen all season would carry on an affair like that. For what seems to be a while now. I could see them having Rachel leave Stan when she found out he was doing dirty business and it put her and Grace in danger. And then later... maybe hooking up with Danny again. I don't know. I've turned it all around in my head and it doesn't really make sense.
I could maybe see Chin going back to HPD out of some misplaced grief/guilt but that didn't seem like it was the case. I guess we'll have to wait to find out more about that too.
I JUST WANT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER AND OUT OF JAIL :(

This! The new season can't start soon enough. I'm just glad my 'Summer shows' (i.e. Leverage, White Collar, Covert Affairs, Rizzoli & Isles) will be coming back soon to take my mind off of it.
