The fact that Mel Gibson is a misogynistic, anti-Semitic asshole detracts from his performances. The fact that "Lana Del Rey" is as manufactured an artist as Britney Spears while trying to brand herself as some sort of indie, shoegaze princess detracts from her music, which isn't all that good anyway. AYRT Well, I listened to this and the other link in this thread (Video Games) and I guess I can say... her voice is fine but the music doesn't do much for me. It has the same problem I've found in most of the "indie" music I've listened to. It bores me. I'm not a specialist in this kind of music or anything, but in general I don't seem to have the patience for it, I just keep waiting for the song to pick up some kind of momentum and it doesn't. More power for those who like it, I guess. I'll just go back to my all-purpose mixture of heavy metal and k-pop :O

My mom seems to love her. I only know Video Game. I think she has a nice voice, and I like the melody... but she sounds as if she's going to fall asleep any moment. Sure, it's supposed to be sung in a softer way, but that's a bit too much.
You should listen to Off to the Races. Personally I love the haunting, melancholy quality of Video Games. It's very dreamy and evocative. I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone though.
