What are your five things, nonnie?

Re: Bucket Lists

(Anonymous) 2010-12-03 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Raise a child
Marry a good man
Own my own home
Live debt free for one year
Learn to make bread/cakes/cookies from scratch

Apparently I'm searching for domesticity but there is more to life!! I just have no hobbies no interests nothing is clicking.

There's still so much I want to do. And I'm not getting any younger. You've made feel a bit depressed too, depressed!nonnie.

But it's not so bad that you only have five things! It means you don't have a lot of unfulfilled wishes? :)

I guess that is a positive way it could be. But honestly it isn't I cannot come up with any dreams and I feel like I'm never going to get most of the five I listed. Sorry for making you depressed too.

Well, I can't give you advice on the domesticity thing, but I can tell you that bread-making is great therapy. It's So. Satisfying.

I make bread, and I love it. The rising process is an exercise in patience and care, but the kneading part is very physical. And then you end up with warm, homemade bread, and what could possibly be better?

It's the one thing I am pretty sure I can accomplish :)

You totally should! It's so simple and real. It always makes me happy! Even when I'm trying a new recipe and it turns out awful, it's still fun.

Bake bread, get yourself financially secure, and get pregnant, that's my advice. Forget the 'find a good man' part; that will either happen, or it won't, there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Gotta be Zen about that shit! :D :D

It's fine. I'm old enough to have done some of the things on your list and I haven't so I can see how it can be upsetting. But cheer up nonnie, and don't worry too much about it. It'll happen in time.

OP

Don't get to down about it. I have a great friend who I really love but she is one that has such exuberance for life - I mean EVERYTHING. She will try anything, eat anything, has no money but some how manages amazing trips because people adore her. That wears me out sometimes but you know she gave me great advice once when I mentioned being jealous about it. She said that she lived each day for that day and that day only. Also that she had to make herself get up and out the door each day, otherwise she would drown thinking of the bad stuff and that drowning is a horrible way to die.

I wasn't doing a bucket list but I was over whelmed with the crap I had going on - she sat with me and wrote out a short list for the next day and taped it to the coffee pot. She said the coffee was for the next and so was the list. IDK it sounds really silly and corny but after a while it did work.

Gift Ideas Please!

(Anonymous) 2010-12-03 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Like a lot of people I am broke for Christmas. I have $100 to spend and have cut my list to my immediate family which is 6, my boyfriend and his Mom, and my best friend. I know there are some creative people floating around here, it hasn't been a big issue for me before no so I'm open to any ideas.

One thing I might do is invite everyone over for a steak dinner, I feel like I could spread the money and we all like a good meat and potatoes dinner! The problem is that kind of makes Christmas Day ho-hum ya know?

I'm big on giving framed pictures as gifts- you can get cheap, but nice frames at Target (or Walmart, really), and then all you need is a picture of you and the person you're giving the gift to. We do joint mom and dad gifts a lot in my family, which can really cut down on the cost. My siblings and I also combine our monies to get larger gifts, which ends up costing less, per person. I also like giving ornaments. You can find them everywhere, for a variety of prices, and its something people can put on their tree every year, so its sentimental.

I start my shopping way in advance, so I normally don't run into money problems, but I really feel for you. Good luck!

I bake people special bread for Christmas gifts. Everybody loves homemade bread! Wrap it up pretty, tie with a big bow, and you're set.

It has to be made fresh, though, so this does make the day before Christmas a bit busy with the baking, but I love it, so no real problem.

I'd love to receive a gift like this! How cool.

I was in you position for a few years OP and it was hard. I learned after the first year to collect things during the year so I didn't have to scrounge at the last minute. It's even harder scrounging than usually with little money!

I think the ornaments is a good idea though because it is Christmas and they will last for years, and there are so many you can fit different personalities.

Oh my lord, I do indeed!

I won't bore you with the full thing, but some of the ones I've accomplished are:

- See ball lightning
- Get a picture of my feet taken in a photo booth (surprisingly tricky, needed two friends)
- Go to the other side of the world

Aww nonnie. Sorry you're depressed. :( I wish I could just spring out of your screen and hug you senseless. *hugs* Start small anon. Do something you'd like to do that's small and instantly achievable. Don't hold out for the big stuff to come along. <3

My friend a few years back knitted some covers for headphones (not ear buds) so they could double as ear warmers. The headphones were cheap and the wool was cheap but the combination was awesome.

Dear Hollywood/film industry at large

Plz to be making an action/adventure film where the hero is gay. There doesn't have to be angst, I just want explosions, car chases, international intrigue and men in love.

No love,

anon.

OP here!

Good news! A co-worker's sister was helping with a church craft sale for the holidays so she and I ran over to look. I ended up with some pins, headbands, Bible covers, and some pretty cool rings. Not much for the boys on my list but that was only like $20 and I know my Mom and bff will like it.

Sadly I am not crafty but I like the ornament idea as well, I know I haven't bought any special ones since my nephew was born.

Oh, really? *interested* I've been wanting to give it a try, but the last Angelina Jolie movie I saw was 'Changeling', and man, did she ever get on my nerves in that one. Well, everybody got on my nerves in that one, except for the first kid that was on screen for about three minutes and the one nice detective later on. Maybe it was the movie and not AJ.
