*grumbles* Nonnies, you're way too fast, I can't keep up. :)

"Memory" and "Power and Glory" mentioned above already.

The Angel and the Pea (for a dropout), NC-17 http://community.livejournal.com/deancastiel/2327753.html
Prompt: “Any kind of fairy tale based fic”.

Bring It On Home (for exmanhater), NC-17 http://community.livejournal.com/deancastiel/2328948.html
Prompts: bits from all of them. So in this fic you will find: matchmaking; Sam and Cas joining forces to influence Dean (sort of); lots of pining and longing on Cas’s part; vague rom-com action, and (hopefully) an edge of BAMF!Castiel.

When Memory Fails (for kyokohitsuji), PG-13 http://community.livejournal.com/deancastiel/2331062.html
Prompt: "Dean loses his memory is scared and silent, trusting only Cas."

The Power and the Glory (for seraphwings), NC-17 http://community.livejournal.com/deancastiel/2333393.html
Prompt: “What will Dean do when the next thing he has to hunt is also his fallen angel boyfriend?”

Power and Glory was A+, can't say anything besides awesome about it.

I have no idea why I clicked on The Angel and the Pea, but I still regret it.

Bring It On Home, it had a strange disconnect between what Castiel thought and how he later acted when the POV changed to Dean's. The sex scene though, I put that in the fapping folder.

When Memory Fails was perfect in every way. The characterization was amazing and the fic left a strong impression, despite nothing much happening in it.

Bring it on Home:

it would be a good thing if he were to educate Cas a little about human behaviour, so they never again had to find him showering in trenchcoat, suit and shoes.

oh, nonnie, it got better after that, really, it did! skip to the end of part one, when they're in the bar.

I LIKE YOU, NONNIE. I gave the fic another try (third!), found the dialogue cliche, kind of offensive, and riddled with badfic tropes, but part one has SHAVING KINK and part two holyfuckingjesus RIMMING and the rest of the fic is completely irritating and forgettable (Cas' speech patterns can fuck the fuck off). But the sex was awesome and definitely made the fic worthwhile

da

Definitely not reading this one then. Rimming is one of my biggest squicks. Thank you for mentioning it, nonnie!

glad to have helped! the shaving and the rimming were definitely the parts worth reading- I'm right there with you on the rest of it, for the most part.

Good god, do I hate homophobic!Dean.

But the sex scene was 95% hotness.

He was right on the edge of it for me in this one - any more time spent on that (and less on the sex), or anything a tad more vitriolic, and I wouldn't have continued reading. I also appreciated that Sam and Cas responded appropriately (you bigoted little prick, etc) instead of just ignoring it, and that it was framed as Dean being a closet case, basically. I know it is probably realistic that canon!Dean would be homophobic (whether he was actually gay/bi or not), but this is fanfic, and I get enough homophobia as it is in the real world.

The Angel and the Pea makes me weep for lost potential, because I love fairytale adaptations like BURNING. How long before it's kosher to write another Princess & the Pea D/C fic?

I shall go watch Once Upon a Mattress (the 1964 Carol Burnett version) again. And cap it off with the Faerie Tale Theatre version.

The Power and the Glory is fucking awesome. I love how the author followed the letter of the prompt and built it up, turning it into this fantastic, burning ache of a D/C thing, with all the other characters competent and organically-placed into the story around them, it's GLORIOUS. I angry face at the ending, though.

When Memory Fails is also fucking awesome, but quieter.

I'M BURNED OUTTTTTTTT.
