I have recced in this fandom. I made an entire spreadsheet of fics/art with number of comments because I refuse to rec things everyone has always read. In most cases, the BNF authors had about 50x more comments on EVERYTHING. I realize there are other factors in there, but that's ridiculous. A couple of non-BNF authors I followed in the early (2006-2008) years have moved onto other fandoms where they now get tons of praise.
Even for non-fic posts, BNFs will often get tons of comments whereas others in the fandom won't get any. I get the feeling people think if they comment on enough BNF posts they'll get noticed.
