That sounds great. I have access to all of it, so I'll settle in with it tonight. :D

The first two seasons are awesome. The third season is infuriating. The fourth and fifth seasons are decent fun - much better than Season 3 but not as good as 1 and 2.

original femslash fiction

I know original m/m slash is popular around fandom, but does anyone have any good original f/f slash recs?

Re: original femslash fiction

(Anonymous) 2011-05-31 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It bothers the shit out of me when people call original queer fiction "slash", even if it is written for the slash audience.

Re: original femslash fiction

(Anonymous) 2011-05-31 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
My bad. I definitely won't go looking for it again, then.

Re: original femslash fiction

Why? It seems a convenient shorthand to differentiate between fiction written by or for queer people and the stuff predominantly written for the straight romance novel audience. Which is not to say that queer people don't read and write slash, but in the original fic ebook market, the marketing is generally towards straight women.

I've read a few decent femmeslash stories on literotica.com. Sadly the bookmarks are on a dead computer and gone forever. And that site is difficult to search. One was one of the best stories ever. If I find it again I'll rec it.

What kind of thing are you into? Schmoop? Non-con? BDSM? I tend towards dark, consent-issuey BDSM kinds of things.

This one is really odd, but I really like it. It's called Cow Girl.

http://rppstories.com/public/rape_story_sam04.html Consent issues like whoa and some body modification and slavery. But definitely f/f.

I like long, plotty fiction but I'm really not terribly picky. Anything that's written well would be fantastic. I'm a member of a few original fic comms here on LJ but they always have m/m recs and I've never seen f/f recs.

I did find some original fiction recs in a femslash comm, but they were not great and I was left wondering if that was the best there was out there? I've been browsing adultfanfiction.net but I wasn't sure where else to look.

Thanks for the rec, nonnie. I'll definitely check it out.

OP here

I started my Alias marathon (on ep 8 now), and though I love the whole action spy thingy, I have massive trouble with connecting to the main characters.

I love Francie, Will, Anna Espinosa and Dixon, and I'd happily watch a whole show about them. Francie's boyfriend, who's name escapes ATM, can come, too. He's hot.

Sydney, though... I feel like she's constantly swinging between competent agent and whiny little girl. I suddenly understand why Jennifer Garner was so convincing in 13 Going on 30. Apparently that's the way she plays all her roles. Maybe she'll get better with time?

The Vaughn dude, egads. He's so bland he barely registers half the time. I have the bad feeling that I'm going to be forced to endure a romance between him and Sydney, which I'm not looking forward to.

Bristow!Dad seems pretty stiff, but I guess he's supposed to be. I'm getting distracted by Victor Garber's different looking ears every time he enters the screen. I feel bad for that, but I can't help it. I'm not quite following some of Sydney's reactions to him, like the whole, IT'S YOUR FAULT MY MOM GOT KILLED BECAUSE YOU WERE A DOUBLE AGENT/WHATEVER!!! IMMA MAKE YOU PAY!!! Just, WTF? With the information I have, it's no more his fault than it was Sydney's fault that her fiance was offed.

The SD-6 techie is about as annoying as Abby on NCIS with his schtick.

Also, some of the dialogue and scene setting is downright cringeworthy. That weirdo meeting between Vaughn and Bristow!Dad in that Japanese(?) restaurant and the contrieved kiss between Sydney and Will with the icecream are the worst offenders.

Anyway, for the moment I'll keep watching and see if I can warm up to the characters.

One of the anons above. Have you met Irina Derevko yet? She's one my most favorite characters in Alias. Also Sydney's dad grew on me after awhile. And Sark is another of my favorites. But I understand what you mean about the main characters not being all that interesting.

I never read any fic for the show, so I'm going to assume I wasn't that interested in the characters. It's a fun romp, but nothing to get that invested it. At least that's how it was for me.

Also Sloane turns out to be a lot of fun. And if you like DaVinci code esque puzzles, it gets really interesting for awhile.

I may need to be rewatching this though, because I find I remember it only vaguely. :)

I haven't met Irina Derevko and Sark yet. As we seem to kind of agree about the charcters, I'm really looking forward to them now.

So far I'm fine with Sloane. He gives off a kind of evol!villain vibe that I like.

And YES to the DaVinci code esque puzzles. Bring them on, Alias. :DDD

Help with LJ Page links - dumb questions

(Anonymous) 2011-06-03 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
While on meme, there are various clicky things I see all the time but half of them mystify me. I figured out EXPAND (and COLLAPSE) and REPLY TO THIS, but I'm still not sure what these other 'clickables' are used for....

LINK (that shows up in the thread title, next to the local time)
PARENT
THREAD

LJ Help wasn't much.... can anyone shed some light. I just wonder if using any of these could make reading/following threads easier. Thanks.

Re: Help with LJ Page links - dumb questions

(Anonymous) 2011-06-03 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
LINK is the direct link to that particular comment. Very useful, if you want to link to a certain comment for some reason.
THREAD is basically the same thing as link.
PARENT takes you to the previous comment in a thread - if you see a comment and wanna know which comment it was replying to, click "parent". Useful in super active & complicated threads where it's hard to see who is replying to who. Also useful if you're reading in flat view. :)

Re: Help with LJ Page links - dumb questions

(Anonymous) 2011-06-03 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LINK is for when you want the exact location of a comment. For instance, if I'm talking on meme and saying "wait, I'm not that nonnie. I'm the one, who said this: http://spnanonhaven.livejournal.com/12197.html?thread=55756709#t55756709", I'd right-click on LINK and copy the link location. (This comment wasn't me, btw.)

You click on PARENT when you want to read the comment that the comment you're currently looking at is replying to. (In the example above it would be this one: http://spnanonhaven.livejournal.com/12197.html?thread=55755685#t55755685)

You click on THREAD when you just want to see the single thread or subthread and not all the comments on a page.

Hey, I'm a graphic designer (we'll see if you think the result of my work is fab ;-) with a tricky BB that needs a very critical eye. If you're interested, let me know how to communicate.

Re: What are you watching?

Ughhh, Hallmark Channel. They were one of my clients at the television broadcast facility I worked in, and they were terribly disorganized with their media delivery. Golden Girls was one of the worst offenders. I've never actually seen the show, but man, I hated keeping track of those titles. SO MANY EPISODES. FLOODING IN CONSTANTLY LATE. /bad memories

L4D2 slash recs?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I just got into the L4D2 fandom and I'm dying for some Nick/Ellis, but most of the fics I find are fluffy and OOC. Care to help?

Re: L4D2 slash recs?

Ok, usually I hate the off-topic screeching anon, but seriously... OT Post. You didn't even bother to write out the name of the fandom. I know it's Left For Dead, but I could just as well NOT know... because this is an anon meme for a TV fandom..

Like the anon above me stated, this IS the OT post. I'm sorry if it hurts your delicate sensibilities, but I didn't do anything wrong.

Also, It seems like a thing here. There's usually at least one hasty anon who doesn't check the location of a thread before complaining. So, please, tracking nonnies, if you see an OT thread, check the post in which the thread was made before responding.
