Yeah, I think you're right. I need to do this.

And thanks for the hugs, nonnie.

Yeah, this is all true. I think I should, too. Thanks for your help, nonnie.

Osama Bin Laden is dead

Huh?? What are you talking about? Why tracking nonnies only? Watching what? Are you talking about the actual Bin Laden or is this some kind of metaphor?

Not the OP and don't know why she's thanking tracking nonnies, but it's for real. Obama is about to make a speech.

Wow! Is it me or that came out of nowhere? Man, it feels like a million years ago that this whole Bin Laden thing went down. Anyway, good for y'all!

OBAMA WHERE ARE YOU, MADE ME WASTE 50 MINUTES WAITING WHEN I COULD HAVE BEEN STUDYING.

I don't feel excitement about this like some other people seem to. I don't know. Doesn't feel like it will change anything to me /cynical.

I wouldn't say I feel excitement. One of the commenters on the Huffington Post called it symbolic closure, and I think that sums it up pretty well. This country is a mess and the death of Bin Laden won't change that, but his death has a lot of power as a symbol.

OP

Sorry, this just kinda hit me and I got a little over-emotional. XD I just wanted to thank someone, anyone, for what's happened. My parent and some of my cousins are in the military, and I lived on an Air Force Base when 9/11 occured, so this is very close to my heart.

I just having a lot of feelings, okay, and most of them are good. Even if it doesn't change anything, but it feels good right now. :,)

Oh no, I was just a little confused because I went to a news site to check, and there was nothing about this, so I didn't know if it was supposed to be a reference to something else or what. It's totally understandable that you feel like that.

This country is a mess

Huh? No more than usual, nonnie.

I'm not excited, either. I don't feel much of anything, except a bit of wonder at how jubilant people are about this. Of course, I didn't lose anyone I loved in 9/11 either.

I don't think you're alone in not feeling much. West Coast nonnie where it's still primetime, and I just flipped through the TV: ABC is pre-empting whatever they usually air now. But FOX, CBS and NBC are airing their regular shows.

I didn't lose anyone close to me on 9/11 either and I'm over the moon. Sometimes it's just nice to celebrate a victory, however small or late in coming.

Sticking my unpopular opinion here. Just... I can't be the only who is not capable of celebrating the loss of a life? Even the life of someone who killed so many. I'm not sure I'm upset that he's dead, but I'm certainly not happy about another person's death, either.

I don't really care if he's dead or not, but I definitely don't see it as a big victory because I'm sure somebody else has already taken his place and is probably planning a revenge right this moment.

Yeah, this. I don't really feel anything about this because there will be someone else.

Ok, I don't really care much about this Bin Laden business, but you're just too precious. Grow up.

NA You are not alone. I realize that everyone deals with grief differently, and that there are a lot of equally valid moral systems out there, so I'm trying to be open-minded.

However, I can understand feeling relief, even joy. Throwing a party publicly seems a step too far, though. It's not like see you people buying poppers and balloons after death row executions, though, and there are good reasons for that.

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead

(Anonymous) 2011-05-02 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
sadly this will change nothing. Innocent people will stay be killed by US and internatinal forces in Afganistan and Irak and nobody will care because that's what happens in a war. Yeah, Bin Laden is dead but the problems won't disappear. I'm happy Americans celebrate but I'm sorry for you if you think Bin Laden was the only problem.

Canadians: Step away from the computer.

Hello Canadian nonnies.

Your Big Bang drafts are in. Now you have time to take an hour away rom your computer. I have an idea! How about you go vote?! TODAY. Especially if you're under 35 because those douchebags constantly underestimnate us and you know how nonnies love proving people wrong.

They told us this would be a boring election, but it's turned into something exciting. Don't miss out. Grab your voter's card, 2 pieces of ID (or someone to vouch for you) and a friend who also wants to vote and head down to the poll listed at electionscanada.ca. Make an X on that little piece of paper, and then pat yourselves on the back for making your democratic contribution. DOESN'T THAT SOUND LIKE A BLAST!?

More fun than sitting around waiting for art claims, anyway.

Wait, you guys vote in pieces of paper?! What. Aren't you supposed to be 1st world? I'm 3rd world and I've been voting through machines since my first vote ever, which granted wasn't all that long ago. Isn't voting in paper kind of extremely disorganized and prone to cheating?

Re: Canadians: Step away from the computer.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-02 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not Canadian, but here in the U.S., a lot of people hold the exact opposite view. Machines are suspect and can be programmed to do just about anything. Paper is physical and recountable.

In any case, in the area where I live, nobody votes by machine. We have no polling places. Your ballot is mailed to you and you mail it back or drop it off at a designated drop center.
