If Dean is sick with the flu, why wouldn't Cas just heal him instead of bringing him soup?

Castiel is devious and likes the hurt/comfort part. Dean is so pretty when he's ill.

Castiel has never healed their minor wounds. Why heal a cold?

Castiel has never shown any interest in their eating habits. Why bring him soup?

Sam told him to. Read the fic.

da (OP of this subthread)

I read the fic. And I think it's silly that Cas would go to all this trouble to bring Dean soup when he could make the cold go away with a touch. Also, it's silly for Sam to tell Cas to bring Dean soup, when Sam could tell Cas to heal Dean with a touch.

I thought it's early Season 4 fic? Sam and Castiel weren't exactly getting along at the time.

Well, in this fic they were getting along well enough for Sam to tell Cas to bring Dean soup. You can't have it both ways.

AYRT That wasn't directed at you. It's one thing to think it's silly or not believable after you've read the fic. But it was obvious the person I was responding to hadn't. It seemed to me they were asking "why would Castiel bring Dean soup ever?" rather than "I have a hard time believing Castiel would bring Dean soup, and the author didn't sell me on it."

Anon you're referring to

As I said above, my comment wasn't meant as a criticism of the fic, it was criticism of the criticism.

That wasn't a criticism. That was a question,

A question that the fic didn't answer to your satisfaction, or threw you out of your enjoyment of the fic? That makes it a criticism.

AYRT

My comment is meant as a reply to the AIRT. BOTH the lack of instant convenient healing and supplying of food are arguable characterization choices that make very little sense in Season 4 context, but are used for specific hurt/comfort purposes in this particular fic.

He's also never been particularly worried about their minor wounds. If he was worried enough to watch over sleeping Dean and bring him soup, why not just heal him and have done with it?

Season 4!Castiel didn't care and probably wasn't allowed, Season 5!Castiel lost his healing abilities, Season 6!Castiel was busy but did heal them when asked.
