This looked kind of cute. Haven't read it yet. Haven't seen the movie either.

So... Jared gets outed even though he's not gay and does everything he can to make people believe he's straight? The only listed pairing is Jared/Jensen, so unless Jensen's a girl it seems to me that he's not exactly trying that hard to spread the word of his non-gayness. Hooking up with a dude would probably seal the deal.

Is it worth the read?

I just read it, and as someone who agrees the movie is dated, I loved it.

(When the story starts, he thinks he's straight. He's dating Alexis.)

Again, I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know what the characters are like. But does Jensen have any part to play besides big gay supporting character who helps the main character realise his gayness? This kind of story can be done well or it can be incredibly offensive.

Also, is there sex? I don't think I'd be able to read Jared/Alexis sex.

AYRT In the story, the outing happens just before filming starts on Supernatural, so the cast and crew are being all super supportive to Jared and telling him about their gay relatives and whatnot when filming starts. Jensen does a lot of kidding around by teasing Jared about him making Sam seem in love with Dean. Eventually, he tells Jared that Jared's in denial and kisses him. I'm not sure if you would consider that to be acting as a big gay supporting character or not.

There is no Jared/Alexis sex. They are waiting and have never had sex.

Wow, it's virgin!Jared? If so, that just gives the whole thing a level of adorableness that might override my other reservations.

It's not explicitly virgin!Jared. Just he and Alexis have been dating for a year, have never had sex and no previous liasons are mentioned.

I just finished the story and am chiming in to say I thought it was really cute and well-done. I didn't think Jensen came off as just a supporting character- I bought into the J2 chemistry. And I thought the author seemed really aware of the places where she could fall into offensive stereotyping, and she did a good job defusing those moments. IDK, I'm not putting this well, but it was clear that she/the narratorial voice didn't buy into the stereotypes, even if the characters sometimes seemed to.

Also, I think it was pretty strongly implied that Jared was a virgin, although it's not explicitly stated.

I've read it now and I disagree. I think Jensen very much comes off a secondary character. The whole fic is about Jared's journey into gayhood and the Jensen character could be played by just about anybody. I actually thought Mike was more a more developed character than Jensen was.

They came off as friends to me (with the exception of the two or three times that Jared checked out his ass, and then kiss which seemed to come out of nowhere). There was almost no indication that Jensen was into Jared, which I know, Jared was supposed to be surprised, but it's nice to give the audience a clue even if Jared doesn't pick up on it.

It wasn't a bad fic, and it wasn't offensive - I agree with you on that - but it was by no means a story about Jared and Jensen.
