(Anonymous) 2010-12-27 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)There were a few meta things that really irked me. EDGs don't actually think Sam is the devil and want to kill him, thanks. I was also unamused by Dean knowing what an EDG is to begin with. Plus Castiel making a point to tell everyone how wrong the bible is on national television just felt unnecessary. I'm not Christian so I'm not hung up on that but that's not something Castiel has ever come out and said in canon. I guess I'd have preferred if that were left in the subtext rather than spelled out for us.
Castiel, Dean, and Sam all doing interviews on Oprah and Ellen kinda nettled me as well. It all felt a touch OOC and hello, crackfic, but this type of set up is far more hilarious when it's actually IC rather than OOC. The entire thing was just a bit too twee for me, right down to the kids sending a letter to Dean and Castiel about how they're their gay role models.
It was cute and if someone likes slightly ditzy Castiel being all adorable and innocent and Dean being protective (mostly of Sam here, but also in general) then I'm sure it would hit their buttons. It's well written and there are some cute turns of phrases here and there. The author has potential, imo. I'd read more by her, but I'd be more interested in reading her non D/C fic since Dean and Castiel's interactions didn't intrigue me here.
Best part was Dean bitching about "Destiel" repeatedly.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-27 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)This is a minor thing to pick at, but I thought Cas did do that in canon, in 5x06. "Your Bible gets a lot wrong," or something like that? Can't remember the exact quote, it's been a long time since I watched it.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-27 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe? I don't remember that personally, but I'll take your word for it. But it felt more like the author wanted to nitpick at Christianity than have something that fit into the narrative.
Supernatural has indirectly said that the Bible is wrong on a few occasions. They talk about how Luke was a prophet who was more of an oddball than Chuck and Chuck admits to leaving certain things out of what was supposed to become the next high holy texts. And it's not like Revelation came true, certainly. But all of that fits within the narrative and it's directed at Sam and Dean, not the audience of a talk time show.
I don't know, it just felt like the author got up more on her soapbox than anything else. It didn't work for me.
Re: D/C SA Week 14: 12/27 - 01/02
(Anonymous) 2010-12-30 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)The actual quote from I Believe the Children Are Our Future is "Your bible gets more wrong than it does right." Which is a line they shouldn't have used anyway since he was referring to how the Christian Bible claimed the anti-Christ to be Lucifer's son, which it doesn't. Odd, considering how Spn gets horribly obscure Biblical stuff dead on and then it gets something pretty basic so terribly wrong.
Didn't read this fic, but yea, that'd be OOC for Cas to say unprovoked. If someone asked directly or made a comment about the Bible that was inaccurate according to Cas, he would totally lay that claim, but not without it being brought up first. So I'd need to read the scene to form an opinion one way or another, because for Castiel it really depends on the situation here.
